It was the last day of January. The month had been gray, with few sunny days. In the afternoon on this last day, the sky cleared and my husband and I headed to the bay for another sunset. It was bitterly cold, -7 C, but without any wind. We weren't disappointed in spite of the cheek-stinging cold.
This photo from mid December shows the bay at Summerside, Prince Edward Island, has started to freeze.
The sun has moved northward since that photo was taken and the bay is frozen. Now, the lighthouse is not in the frame with the setting sun as it was in mid December.
Rumpled ice is aglow with colour as it reflects the sky.
The sun sinks lower into the icy horizon.
The rim of light slips below the horizon; all that remains is the afterglow.
A few steps back show the scene.
Cold, still and peaceful...home.
The icy horizon and the sunset,so calm, that is a special beauty!! Marie.
