These are not power walks. On hikes through the Bonshaw Hills this month, my husband and I look up and stop often to take photos. However, the undergrowth deserves notice as well, particularly the ferns.
Sometimes, they are lush and green in spite of the date on the calendar.
In other areas, the yellow ferns are striking against the background of fallen leaves.
White ferns are rarer but they stand out on the forest floor.
Ferns which are finished teasing us with their colour, turn rusty in the end.
And if we are really lucky, we find a stand of ferns in various stages of autumn glory.
But once in a while, we have to just stop and catch our breath.
Just beautiful! We have so many ferns here, that I tend to take them for granted. Your pictures are stunning! I'll be taking a fresh look at ours on our next hike. Thanks for the great pictures. :-)
ReplyDeleteFerns this timeof year are spectacular, Jan
DeleteIt looks like a delightful place to take walks Marie! These ferns are so beautiful, I bet they would look fantastic in a vase. Thank you for sharing the beauty of nature you have around your place. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI never think to bring some home, Angela. Maybe next time.
DeleteBracken can be so interesting.
ReplyDeleteIndeed they can, AC.
DeleteI have a love/hate relationship with ferns. Don't get me wrong; I don't hate/hate them, but....I love to look at them. But because of my mold allergy, I can't be around them much; I can't even own an indoors Boston fern. But they are SO pretty!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of ferns in terms of allergies, SW.
DeleteThere are masses of ferns in the woods here and yes they are at a similar stage to yours. Gorgeous photos. Have a good day Diane
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane.
DeleteA nice walk and nice photos. I like ferns and you're right they can look different at different times. I love when the light hits them just right. They are pretty and have nice patterns. Thanks for sharing your walk, I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you visited with us, Bill.
DeleteFerns, glorious ferns!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Debra.
DeletePower walkers miss a LOT. I really, really enjoy meandering with you. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGlad you came along, EC.
DeleteI love ferns when I'm walking on the forest trails. However..... I mistakenly planted just one fern in my small garden and it sent out numerous underground tendrils and started taking over the whole garden and choking the other plants. So it was bye bye fern. I'll just enjoy them in the wild.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's best, Shammi. It's hard to have just one of them.
DeleteThose autumn colours are so eye catching especially the fern coloured yellow. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteI love the yellows too, Sarah.
DeleteOh la! That last image is a stunner Marie, I can see it as the inspiration for a painting!
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful spot, PDP.

It is beautiful throughout the maritimes, Catarina.
DeleteThat looks like such a beautiful place. I miss forests like that. I remember learning to identify certain ferns because there were so many in places I visited like this.
ReplyDeleteI know some names of ferns but not many, Ratty. I would miss forests too.
DeletePretty! I have always liked ferns, they seems almost prehistoric for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI so agree, Jenn. They are sort of primitive somehow.
DeleteWe enjoy a variety of ferns in the woods around our home. You have captured the beauty so well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mildred!
