Snow squalls

We’ve had a lot of rain the last week or so. It hasn’t been warm but not cold enough for snow other than a few sprinkles overnight. That snow hasn’t stayed around. My husband and I waited for a break in the weather to go for a walk along the boardwalk.

The deciduous trees are bare and everything was wet and dreary.

However, the sun was trying to find an opening through the heavy overcast and periodically gave us hope of clearing skies.

A ship was on its way out of the harbour

and another waited off-shore for a place at the wharf. While we watched, the scene changed dramatically as snow squalls moved through.

The vessel, the Mandarin, wasn’t more than a blur for several minutes but the squall didn’t last long.

Even on a dreary day, there is always something beautiful to see.

These rose hips with the drops of water hanging from them were in their seasonal glory.

And as always, the little animals never disappoint.

Those first two pictures look like B&W, but then I saw a little bit of color and realized that it was indeed a dreary day. But your beautiful rose hips and adorable chickadee are definitely a plus! :-)

It really was a dreary day but the rose hips and a gorgeous burst of color and of course the little bird is precious!

Red berries are always so cheerful, no wonder people brought them into their houses to celebrate Christmas - and before that probably the winter solstice. The weather's been very similar here, we even managed some sloppy snow early one morning, but overcast and grey most of the time.

Either one, could be a new Header! -smile- I say this, because you commented, that you "ought to" change your header. -smile-

That rode hips shot belongs on a Christmas card! As does the chickadee. And I love that shot above the ships...

Even on a dreary day you have found and captured the beauty and the wonder. Many, many thanks.

That first photo looks like the opening shot for a drama. Looks like our beaches on the WA coast. Delightful berries and birds. Stay warm.

We used to drink rose hip tea when we lived in Alaska. The bird looks like he's ready for winter being all bulked up.

The bird looks inquisitive.

There definitely is beauty in the "dreary". I love the stark artsy quality the weather makes.
the chickadee is adorable. He looks a wee bit cold and annoyed with the blustery day. It would make a great notecard.

Hi Marie, You won’t be surprised to hear that I love the pictures of the ships. Very nice. And, in the first two photos, although everything was wet and dreary, there is a certain kind of beauty in those scenes. Would love to be looking out at that while sitting at home by the fireplace. The last photo of the little bird is just splendid. Thank you for sharing all. By the way, today I am posting on my blog about my visit to Charlottetown last year. I hope you will take a look. :-) Hope you have a happy rest of the week. John

Getting out on a nasty day makes it easier to go out on a nastier day. Even if the weather is down there's still lots to see and do.

Oh my gosh the weather looks fabulous Marie, I would swap in a heartbeat! Love your wee bird, is it a willy wagtail?

You have managed to make cold and dreary quite welcoming.
A brisk walk in these conditions can be so invigorating and free you from guilt for taste testing the cookies made.

And so it begins again. I am in awe of the changes of seasons. It is not my experience so it holds great fascination for me but it also causes an ache as the landscape shuts down and hunkers in. Beautiful pictures Marie.

awesome captures of the ship on the harbor...

the droplets are so pretty on the berries but the chickadee stole the show!!

Great photos.
The container ships are so massive! It feels surreal they float on water. To have them in your harbor, but be spectacular. I only see them as one passes by in New Zealand on the Royal Albatross cam.

Hello,

We had some flurries here, but the snow flakes were huge. Pretty views of the water and sky. I like the second photo. The rosehips are a lovely pop of color. The chickadee is adorable, what a cute photo.
Take care, have a great day! Happy weekend!

It was wonderful to see you and your husband out and about even in the wet weather! I too love to get out in the rain, there is something special about the little squalls and mist in the air. It has been wet and rainy here too. Snow always makes things look pretty. Love the rosehips! Do you ever pick them? I like to make rosehip tea :) Many blessings Marie!
