This past week was beautiful, even though we had rain for three days. We’ve needed rain for months and to finally have some was a relief. We continued to walk the boardwalk through cool drizzle and wind which made for invigorating walks. Such days usually ended by the fire which we lit recently for the season.

Before the rain last week we went to Bonshaw Park to walk the hills. My husband and I are spoiled walking in the Summerside area which is a flat landscape. While we walk every day, the Bonshaw Hills were a challenge as my poor heart can testify. However, I survived and plan to visit Bonshaw more often.

The West River flows through the park at Bonshaw and is a favourite fishing spot of many.

There are a few stairways among the hills as well.

Of course, the beauty of the area is a reason to stop periodically this time of year.

In places the trail is leaf covered and requires care in walking

since the roots of trees may be reaching across the trail and be invisible.

We also walked the Rotary Friendship Trail in Summerside this past week. The ferns continue to rust

as walls of colour are evident at every turn.

Meanwhile, along the boardwalk, the male Bald Eagle has sub-let the Osprey nest and is in residence periodically.

He ignored the Canada Geese which flew overhead as I photographed him.

On the home front, the resident Red Fox which lives in our area,

usually only visible on our security camera, rested in the sun across the street one morning.
It was interesting to see its stand-off with a neighbourhood cat. The fox was aware of the cat before the cat knew of the fox. The cat turned into the trees and the fox just stood its ground.

Along the boardwalk, the morning shadows mute the autumn colour as the geese overhead in the distance fill the air with their honking.

On the bay, a young Herring Gull enjoys a meal of crab.

As always, the maple leaves are brilliant in variety and colour. We will probably enjoy their presence for another week.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

Bonshaw Hills looks like a nice area to hike. Fall colors are gorgeous! Hiking elevation is also a heart thumper for me. Great leading line, windy board walk/path photo!

The colour was looking good along your trail, most especially in the last photo. We still have spots, but there has been a significant overall decline.

You have to stop to admire the view often - especially if you're going up a hill.

Such gorgeous autumn colour in your photos, Marie. I'm glad you're getting a bit of rain. We need more of it here, too. The eagle peeking out of the osprey nest is a great shot. Have a good week.

You have some gorgeous photographs here, the colours of autumn are spectacular aren't they? Colours are turning here in Ontario too. We had rain overnight.... and no frost yet so my zinnias an geraniums are still blooming beautifully!

Oh Marie, This entire post is magical and musical. Your way with words makes me feel as if I am right there with you walking the lovely pathways.
Love the Bald Eagle "sub-letting" the Osprey's nest.
Oh yes, the walls of color beautiful. The stairs not so much. My poor knees would say nope, not gonna do that ... (:0)
Have a wonderful week.

Nice to see you use the proper term for gull. There aren't any "sea gulls" Just gulls.

Fall is well entrenched now, Marie, and we must all enjoy it while we may. Soups are becoming standard fare in our house and it’s always a pleasure to come home to after a walk in the woods.

bonshaw park looks so beautiful, so peaceful. i chuckled when you said this path was more of a "challenge" and you will go back, good for you!! the river is really pretty with the reflecting clouds. its nice that they built stairs, i am sure that made the area much more accessible. i enjoyed all of the autumn colors and the image of the fox...all wonderful!!

Translation: A beautiful autumn hike. I read a report about the Bonshaw Hills. It must be beautiful there. The vibrant maple leaves make the trail special. I find the picture of the eagle fascinating.

Good for you in walking in a different area, Marie, as the foliage colors seem well worth the required effort. I also do not do steep walks very well. We hope there will still be a but of fall color in NH when we return from our current adventures.

Beautiful photos. Wonderful walks.
I'm looking forward to seeing the current splendor of the maple trees a few more times... the Canada geese with their calls in the air are wonderful, as are your photos of the bald eagle in the osprey nest.
Thank you so much for your photos.
Warm greetings from Viola

Beautiful autumn shots, and nice walks - but I didn't realize PEI had any hills at all!

Walking along a forest trail like that, surrounded with the colours and sounds of autumn, is very soothing for the soul. The fox is very cute, but a fox had a nice meal of 10 of my son's chickens a couple of months ago..... so I'm not very happy with foxes right now! (Someone left the door of the chicken coop open.)

Marie what a lovely walk I enjoyed with you...I can hear the honking geese overhead (we have them also)...the vibrant maple leaves, rusty ferns, wooded paths and Fox as well as the Eagle all made this such a pleasant place to visit. Thank you for sharing your lovely part of the world. Glad to you are getting rain...we are too off and on. Hugs!

Marie, Your posts are like a vacation for me. I am there with your scenes and your comments. The closest I get to nature now is sitting on my deck overlooking a small lake but I do see the changing leaves around my yard.
We need rain here. Enjoy your walks and the beauty of your island.
