Beach sculpture

We haven't seen the sun much in the last month and the temperatures are hovering around freezing. It is time for a reminder of warmer times and places of natural beauty.

You can find many interesting items on a beach.

Some of the most interesting include whitened, weathered tree stumps which are natural sculptures.

Sometimes, a large part of the trunk is still attached.

Other times, the sculpture appears stained.

Some sculptures find their way into a fire on the beach.

Sometimes, part of the root system is present in an intricate design.

Or, seaweed covers some of the sculpture.

Some sculptures stand straight, reaching for the sky.

Small trees can become curious sculpture,

or do you prefer aliens?

All you need bring to the beach is your imagination!

Trees are a work of art. Living or deceased.

You are so fortunate to find drift wood. I love it. Havn't seen it around here in a long time.

Love the beach sculptures! So fun to imagine different things with each one! Amazing how the trees and wood take on such interesting shapes! Enjoyed these warm memories, it is freezing here too!

I like looking at Nature's sculptures. I find them in my forest, too - now they're frosted with snow.

It would be terribly cold on those beaches now, SW.

Spring seems light years away, SUI.

There's snow here too, Barb. Thoughts of summer still linger however.

I look for the unusual along a beach too and have always found the old wood sculptures fascinating.

The are fascinating, Judith.

Isn't a great thing that nature works the way it does? I love the last photo, it looks like an alligator!

A little girl I used to sometimes take on hikes with me said old dead wood like these were dragon bones.

Marie Smith said...

Yes it does, Angela!

What a lovely idea, Ratty!

I would be tempted to make something with the wood but I need more supplies around my house like I need a hole in my head. Beside Mother Nature has made a beautiful design with them for us all to enjoy.

Mother Nature does a wonderful job, doesn't she Barbara?

Lovely to have so many huge sculptures washing up on the beach. This usually only happens here after heavy storms. When I was a child my Dad and I found a piece of driftwood in the shape of a Dolphin. It hung on my bedroom wall for many years, I can't remember what happened to it. I still haven't found a replacement, despite my walks along the sea shore. Sarah x

I hope you find your dolphin on a beach again, Sarah.
