Winter visit

Every winter we like to visit some of the wharfs in Prince Edward Island in the quiet of winter. Recently we visited French River which is the subject of the header of this blog.

The area is quiet this time of year. The inlet is frozen finally due to the colder temperatures in the last few weeks.

I take the photos of the wharf from the lookout above the area.

Beginning in April every year, boats are tied up at the wharf. Now some are high and dry behind the fishing shacks.

The slipway is frozen and the lift is tied in place, each waiting for the time when the fishers return with their boats for another season.

The fishing shacks are larger than many we see around the coast here.

Despite the large shacks, stacks of lobster pots line the wharf.

In another month or so, the wharf will be a hub of activity again as the fishers prepare their gear and return their boats to the water when the ice is gone.

It can’t happen soon enough.

Beautiful post. I don't follow the comment about the lobster pots. What's the connection with the size of the fishing shacks?

It's so beautiful there! I hope you'll start seeing some signs of spring soon, and now I'm craving lobster - yum!

Even for someone like me, who has no interest in fishing, such harbours are always a source of fascination - and many pictures.

Wow, it looks so cold there still. The car reading here yesterday was 20C but I am sure that everything is going to get confused as the cold is sure to return. I have seen frosts here in May so this is a very odd February.
Keep well Diane

I so enjoy your posts and the beauty (at every season) that they capture. I hope that spring finds her way to you soon, but am very grateful that you shared the season that you are very, very tired of.

I remember living on Ungava Bay where there were very high tides. It's amazing how the ice rises and falls with the tide. We would go under the ice when the tide was out and gather mussles. There have been several articles about this activity and at least one video.

It seems to be quite a short season for fishermen. It must be a hard life.

I have always admired your header and like the winter scene of it especially. Even though we are all weary of winter, a pretty winter scene in someone else's locality is
always admirable! (At least to me!) 💖

There is something so calm, quiet and peaceful about the snow and cold, but it's glorious to see signs of spring and the awakening of business.

Hi Marie, I love seeing the pictures of French River. As I’ve told you before, your header is great! I sometimes wonder how it would be to live in one of those houses with that wonderful view of the little inlet. I wonder if people go out ice fishing on the inlet after it freezes over. Also … Loved your post, Feb 22, Artistry of the sea. Marie, you are quite the artist yourself. Thanks for sharing your excellent blog. John

I think I can hear the silence.

You could replace your Header, with the icy one! Until the ice melts. -smile-

The boats shown, look well cared for. But of course, that makes sense. It is for their livelihood.

Ditto what TABOR said above.... The silence.....
