Life is slowly beginning to return to something like normal for us. Three weeks after the bicycle accident, my mobility has improved, though not without pain. It is bearable to move a bit every day. My husband and I have missed the best of the autumn colour but we have been out for a few short walks, less than a kilometre, a few times. It feels so good to be outdoors after so much time in the house. Soon the bitter cold will set in and nature will be shrouded in white for the next number of months. Our outings will return to winter dress mode.
What a wonder it is to have such clear vision in my right eye after the cataract surgery! Mere minutes in the surgical suite, inside what appeared to be a bubble, listening to the doctor and nurse discuss recent family vacations, I knew and could see through a haze that work was being done on my eye, but I felt nothing. Now, the left eye, which was the better of the two, has blurred vision compared to the right but is scheduled for repair in a few weeks. In the end, I may need reading glasses but I am so thankful for this surgery.
We are using Vax passes to enter non essential businesses without any problems and masking is essential. There are currently two active cases of Covid on the island, both due to travel. There have been 317 cases of Covid since the outbreak of the pandemic and two short hospitalizations. We have had great guidance from our Public Health officials which the politicians supported. They have provided great guidance and people have followed it. With a double vaccination rate of almost 90%, Prince Edward Island has been fortunate thus far in the pandemic.
Yesterday, we had breakfast with our daughter and grandson at a local breakfast spot. It is always great to spend time with them and we had a tasty, leisurely breakfast. There were a few other people in the restaurant as well. When it came time to pay the bill, a gentleman from a nearby table approached and offered to pay our bill. What a wonderful gesture from two men visiting from London, Ontario, looking to invest on the island! They are enjoying the island, especially the friendly people and the relaxed atmosphere. We accepted their offer and will pass on the good deed in the near future.
These men and the couple from Montreal who stopped to help us after my bike accident, are evidence of the kind people there are in this world.
Very glad you're back and enjoying the results of the cataract surgery up to now. Once it's done there'll be no stopping you. Are you seeing colors better now?
Glad your recovery is progressing and you're able to get out and about now.
So glad you are improving.
You must have really HURT yourself! -sigh-
as midnight sighs.~Rusty Fischer
I am glad you are recovering and great news on your eyesight.
What a kind offer, very nice of the gentlemen to pay for your breakfast.
Take care and stay safe! Take care, enjoy your day! Happy weekend!
So glad to hear that everything is progressing so well.

hi marie, i missed your last update so i am really happy to hear from you today. i was elated when i saw your name pop up in my reading list!!. i am so happy to read that you are improving and getting out. someone like yourself needs to get outside and enjoy life. maybe a drive in the car to look at the leaves. chuck and i did that yesterday and the colors were amazing. it is not ideal, better to see the leaves on foot, BUT, it was enjoyable!!
i guess now is a good time to have the cataract surgery, while you are recovering...
we went to longwood gardens yesterday and no one was wearing a mask, it was a little scary!! here in new jersey, people have not supported our elected officials. makes me sad, name calling and unkind messages are sending a really bad message to our kids!!
you are lucky to be meeting such kind people, you will enjoy paying it forward!! best wishes marie!!
Glad your getting out.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Glad to hear that you are progressing along nice and fine. Isn't clear sight a wonderful gift to have. I remember mine and it was great to have clear vision once again.
Lots and lots of good news in this post. I am so very glad to read it.
Nice that you started being outdoors! Enjoy as weather permits!
Good that you are recovering.
You are so blessed to have so few Covid cases. I have been fully vaxxed, but too many refuse to do so , so our case numbers are much higher.
It is so good to hear that you are able to get out and about a little....just a little feels so good after being confined to the house for so long.
I didn't realize that your injuries were so serious. I hope you recover rapidly so that we will see more of the island.
Glad to hear from you again. I was thinking about how I would decorate the hallway in my new apartment. I am trying to surround myself with things I love and after plants and gardening, it is art books and ducks. I got on Amazon and
found several books on duck stamps which I thought would have good color pix I could cut out and frame. Then I found a lady who did watercolor and I bought a picture of a male & female mallard with a Peking duck between, all of which I used to have. Just a cute watercolor but I'm sure I'll love it. If that didn't work I was going to shop on the Marie Network. I know she has good duck pictures!
Since my eye surgery, the colour of the walls in the living room as seen with the new lens in the fixed eye, is different from what I see with the unfixed eye. The colour of the walls seen with both eyes has a yellow cast. It will be interesting to have the vision corrected in both eyes and see colours in a new light, so to speak.
Glad you are improving. The between surgeries vision is so interesting.
Most people are kind and I'm glad you've seen the good side of people lately. I'm also glad you're on the mend from your bicycle accident and the cataract surgery. All good things.
It's great to hear that you are coming along, Marie, and it is especially encouraging that the cataract surgery was so successful. The gesture from the visitor from London, ON was quite lovely too. You paid it forward in reverse when you were so kind to a couple of Ontarians visiting PEI last month!
Good news your healing continues. You have a strong spirit.
Glad the worst of the fallout from the incident is behind you. How weird that a random stranger wanted to pay your bill. It happens in coffee lines here but not to me, of course.
I'm so glad to hear you are doing so well. I don't remember what it was like before my cataract surgery, because now I just take it for granted that I can see! Congratulations on your healing process getting you better every day.
Glad you're improving and discovering the kindness of strangers. I miss breakfasts out! It's my favorite meal.
One hears so much these days that is depressing and disturbing, so it is a joy to hear that human kindness is still alive and doing well.
Glad you are feeling better, even if it is taking a while.
So glad that you're recovering well.
Your post shows that the world moves on in gentle and generous ways.
Wow! That was kind of them.
Glad you're improving and that your vision is so much better. It still sounds like a scary op though.
So happy you're feeling better!
A big hug from Titti
Such a shame you have missed so much of a colorful autmmn because you are not fully recoved. On the other side of the coin there has been so much wonderful positivity. Take care and continue to heal.
Glad to hear you are recovering.
Hi Marie, Great to find Notes from the island today! So happy for you that things are starting to return to normal. Wow, I feel so much empathy for you having that bike accident. I fell off my bike when I was about 8 years old and really scratched up my left arm … can see the scar to this day. Happy for you about your right eye cataract surgery results. When I had my first eye done, I went home with a patch over the eye and was told not to remove it until the next day. When I did remove it, the next morning, my sight was so much better it brought me to tears. That clouded up my eye again for a moment. :-) I admire the VAX situation on PEI and, I think, in Canada in general. Well, you don’t have so many crazies up there! Down here, in good old USA, we have a bunch of folks who think their “rights” are more important than life itself. Da*n if anyone is going to tell them what to do, even if it means saving their life, their families lives, and their neighbor’s lives. The rift between the crazies and the rest of us has gotten worse over the last few years as most of the crazies identify with Mr Trump, who is the ultimate crazy, and encouraged idiotic behavior, such as denial of climate change. Now, back to Notes from the island … I loved the part about the gentleman paying your bill. What a wonderful example of human kindness! Good to hear from you and take good care! John
I was so glad to hear about the couple paying for your lunch. I have had that happen to me a couple of times and it makes me feel good to see the kindness and generosity of strangers. I believe we have far more good people in the world than bad. It seems that good people keep finding ways to help me and I am so appreciative. I wish we had your health care system in the USA and I am glad to hear so many of your readers like your system. Here when I bring up the subject, I am told that the Canadians hate the health care system there. I have never met a Canadian who would rather have our system. As you say, waiting for elective surgery is very little to pay when you get the surgery at no cost to you and are not turned away because you don't have insurance. I do hope we can get it someday.
I was so happy when my cataract surgery was done. I think I might need to go back now and have the surgery where they clear up some fogginess that is blurring my eyes. Hope you will be over the bike fall and the surgery soon and enjoying your outings again.
i felt really serene to learn that you are recovering smoothly dear Marie !
being back for walks must be relief and refreshing experience after long inside stay ,i am happy for you !
i hope that you will be enjoying the time remained of splendid season in days ahead amen!
how nice to have breakfast with daughter and grandson :) family time is healing indeed .
i believe that kindness is rewarded with kindness always and Nature circulates it this way.
sending you lots and lots of healing power my friend !
health ,peace and joy to you and family!
