Not again!

Winter has been checking in with us this past week. Snow was gone then returned three times. Enough of that persistence! A week without snow isn’t too much to ask, is it? I much prefer a walk outside rather than the treadmill, but that wasn’t always possible last week.

One day, when we could walk the boardwalk, I watched an area where various species of birds like to gather. During a 15 minute period I saw a Grackle, Blue Jays, Crows, a Gull, Mourning Doves,

Tree Sparrows,

Black-eyed Juncos,

and Black-capped Chickadees

Meanwhile, in the stream nearby Black Ducks and Mallards

fed in the stream. Robins looked for food nearby as well.

On the way home another day, Canada Geese fed in a field near our house. The look of this vegetation is typical of our area this time of year. The snow must go for more than a day before everything starts to turn green.

On Saturday, we attended our granddaughter’s last gymnastics competition for this season. Over the last year, Granddaughter 2 has gained confidence and improved her skills tremendously. It is always a pleasure to watch her perform.

At the competition, I sat next to a man I believe to be a Ukrainian immigrant. His daughter was competing and performed well too. When Russia invaded Ukraine, almost 300,000 Ukrainians came to Canada and a number settled on Prince Edward Island. They left when an aggressor invaded their homeland, in an effort to acquire their land and all its resources.

I can’t help but wonder how these new islanders feel about the prospect of the same thing happening to this country at the hands of a different aggressor. Do they take the rhetoric seriously? Many people do.

We live in sad times!

We are well into Spring here in Georgia. We have that beautiful new leaf green everywhere. Great pic of your granddaughter!

Nice action shot. Floor routines are my favorite gymnastic event! We are also in the yo-yo weather pattern.

She looks so graceful, Marie.
Snow is certainly hanging on in your area, and in much of the north. We will be in the low 30s, possibly in the 20s tonight. And our fruit trees are in bloom. So sad.

Your granddaughter is pretty impressive performing in the gymnastics competition.

Love the birds. I am in awe of your grand daughter. And shudder at the state of the world.

That's a very nice arch your grandkid is displaying. Note, I have now been a spectator to two generations of competitive gymnasts and so I speak from experience. And I hear you about the snow. We have more forecast for tomorrow and the little birds are going to be some annoyed. There is not much available yet and I saw a junco on the hanging suet a few days ago. A first, for us. They are supposed to be ground birds in my book.

Ugh I can't imagine snow after February.. we have received some snow in spring in past years but it is a rare occurrence.

Your granddaughter is amazing. I always feel sad and worried when I think about our children and grandchildren and talk about the times we live in. And I don't want to think about the future.

Here we also have a forecast of snow, Marie, and today there was some light snow which thankfully did not result in any accumulation. When snow isn't forecast, rain has been so it's been a very dreary and wet intro to Spring, so far. Your granddaughter looks amazing in that backflip.

In school I could always tell who was in dance or gymnastics. They carried themselves in a much different way. It was confidence that showed.

Winter keeps cycling through here, too. Snow tonight.
We will outlast the current oligarch.

How cool about your granddaughter. What talent.

I know right? It's snowing right now as I type. Woke to it, it stopped and was very cold and then bam, more snow.

Buuuurrrrrr.

Ugh, I can't imagine getting snow now! We're dropping down to the 40s tomorrow and 30s Wednesday, and that's way too cold for my liking.

I'm always amazed at how people can move in gymnastics.

We do live in sad times. Quite a few of us here wish Canada would annex us.

That's a great shot of your flexible and strong granddaughter! Surely the snow will end soon and warmer days arrive.
The world is in such turmoil these days. I, too, wonder what some of the immigrants think of the threat to our country - something we never imagined.

I love all the bird photos, esp. the robin. Yes we are living in confusing and hard times at the moment.

Wow Marie your granddaughter must be a wonderful athlete. I cannot imagine how much hard work she puts in to be able to do what she does. All your photos of the birds are lovely. We as well are enjoying our birds. Hope your weather settles soon and the snow stops. We had a skiff overnight and my poor daffodils' heads are down on the ground. :(!! Take care friend and have a good week. Hugs!

Sad times for sure. Sadder than I have ever seen it and it just keeps getting worse each passing day. Snow, at least we are over that here but four days of continuing storms and tornado warnings like nothing I have ever seen is pretty wicked, I think I would trade for those snows.

Marie Smith said...

Oh Pam, I was hoping you were past the tornado warnings in your area. It must be terrifying. Snow is nothing in comparison! I hope you and your family continue to be safe. Take care.

You must be very proud of her (their) accomplishment. : )
Birds calm us down... even when we don't know if it is winter or spring.

I always think when the Canada geese arrive, spring is truly well on its way. We still have snow, but actually had a bit of rain today, so it is finally melting quickly. If the temp rises to 13C this weekend, I suspect there won't be much left next week.
Your granddaughter is very agile! It's a wonderful sport.
I believe the majority of Canadians are dead set against any efforts of the next door neighbour to attempt to annex our country. Just today I read a news article that suggested that just not buying from the United States will provide an additional 10B to our economy as more people buy Canadian. Though not huge, that's nothing to sneeze at. The situation, too, seems to have galvanized Canadians to be more united than we've been in several years.

Hello Marie,
I enjoyed the bird photos, you saw a nice variety of birds on your walk. Wonderful photo of your granddaughter, I am sure you are very proud of her performance. Take care, have a wonderful day!

The snow seems to be coming and going far too regularly at this time of year, Marie. I am happy to know that you have the birds and your very talented Granddaughter to lift your spirits.

Looks like we pretty much have the same birds.

Trust me, Marie, as an American living in the Netherlands: there is NO WAY anyone in America, let alone Canada, will allow our Great Aggressor to invade your country which we love. God willing and the creek don't rise, he'll be gone before we know it. It's coming to The Tipping Point!

In the meantime, keep hoping for Spring (we're in a cold spell, too) and counting the birds!

Thank you dear Marie for filling my day with joy by sharing these lovely photos of cute birds 🥰

I absolutely love them ♥️
Bravo for your dear granddaughter to perform such an astonishing move and hats off for you for capturing it so brilliantly 😍🤗👍

You definitely feel proud to see her accomplishing such amazing achievement👌😊🥰

Human history is full of such sad events my friend and despite all claims of civilisation we still are stuck in darkness of selfishness in ignorance unfortunately.
The we win from our ego everything resolves peacefully

Marie, I sure enjoyed your bird photos and your granddaughter is an excellent gymnast! I am so sad about the direction tRump is taking our country. I am disgusted with the way he is treating Canada. And the rest of the world, for that matter. I’m still trying to come to grips with living in a country where enough citizens voted for an idiot to become the leader. It’s harsh! Getting back to better things … thank you for sharing your wonderful blog. Wishing you and yours a happy weekend! John

Today (saturday) is the first morning where there hasn't been snow or ice or frost on the ground when I wake up. I think it's a 11 day April Fool's joke. Thankfully, Spring is sure to arrive soon. I wonder where all the birds hide when it's such cold windy snowy icy weather.

Nothing like the sounds and sight of a Robin to tell you spring has finally arrived!
