This past week was a typical week in March in some ways. We started the week without snow on the ground or ice in the bay. Snow soon made an appearance again though and by Monday morning, everything was snow covered. Since then, the snow has disappeared and reappeared again, though not lasting long.
Ice has not returned to the bay in the absence of a strong on-shore wind. We did have fog most days although it is not so common here in spite of our maritime location. March, the cheeky one, plays with our desire for an early spring.
My husband and I had an interesting experience last week regarding our car keys. It started out as many days do. We headed to the store then he dropped me back home before he made another stop. On his return, we planned a walk on the boardwalk.
As I went in the house, the car started some kind of alarm. There are so many alarms on the vehicle, we find it hard to keep them straight. My husband ignored the alarm and went on his way. Mistake!
I was inside putting items away when the phone rang. My husband was stuck at the business without a key to start the car. I’d had my keys on me when he started the car at home but had taken them in the house. He was in the car which was still running, without keys, hence the alarm which he ignored. Then later, when he turned the car off before exiting, he couldn’t start it again.
I left home and walked in his direction with his keys and he walked towards me from his position. We met in the middle. Thankfully he was only about four kilometres away. We missed our usual walk that day. Lesson learned.
Oh for the simpler days when a key had to go in the ignition to start a vehicle!
That vehicle, a plug-in hybrid, was bought new in January 2024. We have used one full tank of gas and part of another on ten thousand kilometres of driving. Our hydro bill has increased but less than the cost of the gas we would have used. Now if we could only get all the alarms figured out!
Meanwhile, one day last week, someone left cracked corn along the bridge railing on the boardwalk. The Blue Jays
and Red Squirrels enjoyed it immensely.
No alarms involved.

Oh dear, 2 km each. Not quite the same as walking the boardwalk! Your images of the Blue Jays and Red Squirrel are exceptional.
That's the disadvantage of a fob to start the car, it's often smarter than the driver. Mine has out-thought me now and then. Good thing you were able to walk and meet.

I have only ridden in cars with those kinds of keys. I am old school, it seems. But all those alarms would definitely rattle me.
You took a different kind of walk! I've ridden in the push button type newer hybrids. I imagine it would take some getting used to. My truck is a 2015 model, so keys it is for me.
hehehehe...funny, but not really funny. we don't have a key, just a push button. once we went into a restaurant and came out afterward and our car was running. it had been running the whole time. i'm not sure what happened, clearly he never shut the car off and the "fob" must have been in the car. i don't drive but the hubs loves the push start. the blue jays are beautiful!!!
“March, the cheeky one” is a description that I must remember although ‘cheeky’ might not be strong enough as March can be downright malicious. Fun car/technology story, and I liked you pics today, especially the jays. They were lined up so cutely.

Ah Marie what a situation with the car keys. I have a 2011 civic - stick shift and mine still takes a key in the ignition. I guess I just have not moved into the new way of doing things. I am sure one day I will have to make the change. Your blue jays lined up in a row made me smile. They can be quite aggressive around here...adore your cute squirrel. Marie, what a classic March tale—always keeping us guessing with snow one day, sunshine the next, and the ever-present tease of spring! I had to smile at your car key adventure. Modern technology is convenient... until it isn’t! I’ve had a few close calls with those keyless fobs myself, and it really makes you miss the simplicity of old-fashioned keys. Glad it all worked out in the end, even if you missed your walk. Here’s hoping April brings more predictable weather and fewer car alarms! John
I have a bad habit of leaving one of the fobs in the car. It hollers at me when I open the door! But so far, I haven't made the mistake of driving off without a fob - I guess having a purse that I take with me everywhere is the saving grace.

Oh no. My car would not have even made out the driveway without a key. But I agree the beeps and alarms are annoying. My car is always telling me to take a coffee break.

Our March weather is always kind of crazy, too, but it has been looking very much like spring lately.
It used to be the teenagers that had to be picked up. Now it is the car. Ah, progress. We have the cracked corn out and a flock of about 30 red wing blackbirds coming by. Jays, of course. And a lot of wookpeckers on the suet. Two big balls of it consumed this week. Mind you, we had an ice storm and the ground seeds got covered up. Yeah, March. April is forecast to do much the same.
I would be totally okay if we went back to the times where there were keys in ignitions, shift sticks and had to manually roll down a window.

Wonderful! Mini gets hysterical when I try to park. I am convinced that one day it will be her beeping that will make me bump into something. (that's what I'll blame anyway.)
Modern cars are too complicated for their own good.

Beautiful photos and I do love the red squirrels. I discovered the other day that I could lock our car while the keys were still inside!!! Thankfully the second set of keys were available!!!

We still have snow here in the mountains.
You might not have ducks in a row but sure have bluebirds lined up! lol....Cool shot to catch them like that. We are still having a slight battle with Old Man Winter wanting to come out and play. We have warm temps and then it turned off cold for one day, and the spring like day. You know, those short little winters that come and go.
