While all the leaves aren’t quite open yet on many trees,
the forest floor in a Prince Edward Island is alive again with green.
Last autumn’s leaves have fertilized new growth and wildflowers are in bud
or bloom, such as these Woolly Blue Violets.
Ferns are unfurled and quite prolific in places.
Shrubs are in bloom, bursting forth into the grey of late spring,
changing it into a wonderland of beauty.
Even the trees do their part with the early blooms.
Meanwhile, the animals are busy tending nests or raising young. At Cavendish, this Osprey searched for food,
periodically calling to its mate sat on the nest nearby.
Spring is when the tiny fish, such as smelt or larger trout swim upstream to spawn. This draws large birds, such as Bald Eagles to ponds to feed in the early morning. Having gorged on fish, they sit in the trees nearby, as they digest it.
On our recent visit to Clarkes Pond at Cavendish, my husband and I saw five Eagles perched in old snags in the distance.
Meanwhile this young Eagle sat near the trail, digesting its meal and watching the walkers.
Later that morning, a Goldfinch in Cavendish Grove, a fraction of the size of the Eagle, is a beauty in its own right.
We walked this past week during cold, windy, sometimes wet weather. Spring clothes were put aside one day for winter's warmest again. On a day when we walked half of our usual distance due to the cold, wind and rain, we met few of the regular walkers, except two. She will be ninety this year. He uses a tall walking stick and she has a cane. They have missed very few days on the boardwalk and walked in a sheltered area that day to complete their walk in spite of conditions.
They inspire my husband and me to keep moving. I hope you find your motivation to keep moving too!

When my husband's grandma was in her 90's she would tell everyone we saw when we were out walking. It's a badge of honor.
It's encouraging to read about old people still getting out to enjoy the outdoors.
Does this species of violet have a scent or is it odorless?
Wonderful pictures. I too am out there walking in the weather, although not as dire as yours, it's been rainy.
I just love seeing all the fresh Spring shades of green right now -- such a balm to the soul after a long winter of white, grey, brown and black!
It’s a good time of year when the leaves are not fully open. This year we saw less that hoped for due to the weather.
Marie,
Beneath the budding canopy, spring whispers soft and true,
With violets, ferns, and feathered songs in every shade and hue.
The eagle soars, the goldfinch sings, while brisk winds chase the rain—
Yet still you walk, through chill and cheer, through sunshine and through strain.
Two elders pace with quiet grace, their spirits bold and free—
And in their steps, a spark is lit to move, and simply be.
John

Absolutely Refreshing Post With A Beautiful Message In Closing
Well Done ,
Cheers
Spring is inspiring, as are your posts!
Spring is such a beautiful season, but often varied as to weather. Walking in all weather takes commitment. Good for that older couple.
Gorgeous, and YES, keep moving.
Love the birds you see on your walks. My son Steve and his wife just got back from a cruise to Alaska (this morning they docked back at home) The one thing Steve wanted to see up close and personal was bald eagles. He was not disappointed. Can't wait to see his photos in a few days.

I forgot to say how much I loved the picture of the emerging buds and the dainty violets. So lovely.

... and then we realize that Nature is alive and well... and so are we! Let's keep moving...
Spring sure is looking beautiful. Glad to hear that the older folks don't let the weather stop them. Walk on!
So beautiful. I love I vibrant the green becomes.
SK,
We saw those violets again this morning and I can say they are odorless.
Marie
I love the vibrancy of spring - which in itself motivates me to keep moving.
thank you so much for sharing the beauty and the magic of yours.
I like the way you picked out the little plants from the underbrush.
Terrific photos! I shamefully admit I haven't had a walk yet here in the city. Those darn weeds in the back yard have kept me busy, but I need to make time to go to the park.
the island is really coming to life and looks so pretty through your lens!! the osprey capture and the eglet, so amazing. the goldfinch is our state bird. what great inspiration you have!!
Our leaves are not full out but a bit farther along than yours, I think. My violets are over, and the keys are falling off the maples. We had a ballet of turkey vultures this afternoon. They are ugly close to, but when they fly, they are poetry.
that eagle is so beautiful!
You have such a beautiful abundance of birds , plants, and nature! It is wonderful to see elderly keep going and enjoying!
When eldest son lived in Germany he would admire people above ninety active in daily life unlike here. He would see ninety years old woman riding bicycle everyday 🤗
Yes such situations teach us to stay positive and uplifted
I feel really happy how you two keep walking despite the weather issues 👍
Every image is soulful, delightful and breathtaking 🥹🥰♥️♥️♥️
Hello,
It is nice to see the trees turning green and the flowers starting to bloom. I love your landscapes and the great shots of the Osprey and Eagle. The Goldfinch is cute! Take care, have a great day!
Your smelt mention reminded me of smelting in Lake Superior in the 80's. I wonder if they still dip net for them up there. Is smelting a social event there? We would go up after dark with a cooler full of beer, by morning the beer was gone and replaced with smelt in the cooler.
Your photography is amazing, my friend. I love the beauty you share here, and I always learn something too! Have a cozy afternoon in your world!
It sounds like your weather is up and down like ours. This May has been unusually cold and wet. We are now once again the 60's and hopefully we will stay there or above. Yes it is so inspiring to read about how folks in their 80's and 90's continue to carry on. Being a three mile walker a day myself...hope it keeps me in shape if I make it to 90! Hugs
Y’all are an inspiration as well to get outdoors.
May
Excellent poem, John.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful spring. We are almost into summer here outside Atlanta, and I have my deck garden to play in. My squash is blooming and one tomato plant has three small tomatoes. Your posts are definitely inspiring and make me wish I was a good photographer.
We do have to keep moving! Even in my wheelchair I find getting out for a short ride makes a huge difference.
Marie, as wonderful as looking up can be, it's also a good thing to look down at what's growing and blooming. My walking was a bit curtailed but I am getting back to it and hope to get to the nearbu park area as soon as it dries up a bit more. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a boardwalk.
I love how nature and people are both waking up and pushing through the chill. That story of the walkers with their cane and stick really hit me such a heartwarming reminder to keep going, no matter what.
Thanks for sharing
What a wonderful, inspiring pair. My friends and I wonder if we still be able to walk in our 80's! Seeing your spring images, I wish I was already on the island. So excited for 2 weeks time. I think the tulips will be finished.
All of our trees are all leaves out.
Perfect, John
Hello Marie, your photos are absolutely gorgeous!
It's wonderful to see spring begin to wake up and all the greens and blooms come to life! The birds you see are amazing. I'm always inspired by those who walk up into their 90s - I have one neighbor who still walks, and she is 92. Amazing!
Our houseguest, Toby, is keeping us moving at the moment! What wonderful sights and creatures you capture. Ferns are amazing, aren't they? They appear one day and quickly become enormous!
I admire those people. I'm in my fifties and sometimes I'm just too tired.
Loving all the greenery and you got great shots of the birds.
A stunning close-up photo of the eagle. Well done!!
I love your photos of the wildflowers. I don’t have any woods near me, but if I did, it would be the flowers that I would be looking for.
Beautiful photos, especially the birds
Wonderful spring images. The movement I am inspired to do at present it to sweep up the leaves from our driveway and scatter them on the garden beds in the hope they will stay there. They often don't!
