November trail

Yesterday was a beautiful autumn day. My husband and I were out on the Confederation Trail before the wind came up again. It had been a windy week, with winds gusting up to 80 kph some days. One day, the rain with the wind kept us inside all day.

Variety was the theme of last week as we walked the boardwalk, the indoor track at Credit Union Place, the Confederation Trail and the treadmill at home.

Daisy, the golden retriever grand-dog came to stay during the week, making a walk more essential than ever.

My husband and I walk every day but a dog makes it an urgent matter. The Confederation Trail is the best option for such a walk. Several days we didn’t meet anyone on the trail. Without other walkers nearby, Daisy can run off-lead. She has the zoomies when she runs there, down over the trail, into the fields, back out, repeat.

She always returns when called to be put on lead again for others to pass along the trail.

Daisy arrived with a huge bag of dog food which I lifted out of the car as our daughter brought her into the house. It was heavy, 14 kilograms or almost 31 pounds. I lifted it easily though which I attribute to the hand weights I use three times a week.

We weren’t able to do a trail with elevation this past week. However, I increased the incline on the treadmill and plan to continue with it. My goal is to walk steeper trails in other parts of the island without being winded. We want to stay as active as we can for as long as we can.

At the boardwalk, the ducks which usually hang out in the salt marsh were in the bay and along the shoreline one morning. It looked as if the collective had decided on a change of scenery for the morning.

Most trees are bare now, with a few exceptions. The trees are ready for snow again though we haven’t had any yet although temperatures are in the low single digits most days.

We have Daisy again this week and may not get any further from home than we did this past week. However, we will enjoy our time with her and make the most of it. It may be too cold to sit on this bench however.

Have a great week!

Hello Marie,

It is wonderful that you have such a lovely walk very close to where you live. And, Daisy looks to be extremely happy in this environment too.
Even through these images, one can imagine that the days are much colder and the trees definitely look wintry now. No, the bench will have to wait until Spring...

Hello,
Dogs do have us outside walking a lot more.
Daisy is so cute, reminds me of my Goldie Girl.
The leaves are falling off, more on the ground than left on the trees. Pretty scenery and great collection of photos. Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.

Your first and last images are perfect examples of why Island Musings is one of my favorite blogs. First things first … your image looking down the Confederation Trail is a beauty and zooming that up to full screen size is just delightful. When I look at an image like that and feel like I’m there … it’s what makes for a great capture. And secondly, the bench. Again, it takes me there and I’m afraid I may stay for a long time. What a perfect spot to sit and reflect on life. Thank you, Marie, for another great post. John

Winter arrived here yesterday, Marie. There was quite a bit of snow and cold winds. Today it is minus 5 - feel like minus 9. It's just Ontario in November being Ontario in November!

I don't remember seeing that bench before. Do you have any pictures of it when the trees are in bloom.

I can tell you that I bypassed some benches today. 🙂

Between yesterday and today we got a dump of over 8 inches of snow. Our road crews were not ready for it, and I understand that chaos ensued on hills and bridges. The husband of one of my friends spent the whole of Sunday plucking people out of the ditches, including one of the plows. So, I am looking rather wistfully at your end of autumn roads. And loving the dog romps. We had one like that, with the difference that if he started a rabbit, he had to be firmly grabbed off the trail and leashed or he would continue the chase for far too long. Not that he ever caught one; smart bunnies hereabouts.

It's really nice to have a canine companion, Daisy, to share the walks with, Marie, and I suspect that she enjoys these as much as you and Rick. Good for you in increasing the incline and also for being able to lift that heavy dog food! We have a chilly, overcast day today which certainly looks like it could snow, but none is forecast and temps will be raising again later this week.

I do not really enjoy lifting weights - but everyone says its good for me, so I persist! Luckily, the bag of cat food we have delivered are a little less massive than your dog food! We have had snow on the higher parts of Victoria this week - even though it is supposed to be spring!

Increasing the incline is a smart idea. Very cool. Such a cute pup and I love that last shot with the bench. Really, really good one.

Lovely to see all your walking trails. I agree it’s good to include a few hills in your route if you can to keep you fit. Daisy looks like a good companion. B x

You have a good variety of walking options! That must be nice, keeping your walks from being boring. And I am sure Daisy does that as well. As I recall, she is still fairly young, isn't she? Zoomies are so funny to watch. As long as you dont get bowled over!

Barbara, I don’t have a photo of the bench with the leaves on the trees. It would make a great seasonal series though.

Granny Sue,

Daisy is two years old but still a pup in many ways.

Such a lovely Autumn country road to walk on. Yes, dogs are the best motivation for walking! Daisy is such a pretty dog! Enjoy Daisy and your lovely Autumn weather!

Debbie Nolan said...

Marie your walks look wonderful in spite of the cooler weather. So glad you have Daisy to keep you motivated. She seems to come quite often to stay with you and hubby. I know my two GSD's keep me walking every day. Don't know what I would do without them. I do have a cat who walks with me in the early morning most days...Skeeter. He lives in our shed but I don't think he would do three miles like my two doggies. Hugs!

Congrats to you and your husband for staying in shape, with or without Daisy! BRAVA! As we all get older, this is so important. I love these walks you can take so freely where you are, enjoying Mother Nature. Good for the Hart & Soul, as well as for the Body & Mind!!
