Floating in Greenwich

The air is full of birdsong everywhere you go. We saw some yellow warblers

as my husband and I headed to the floating boardwalk, the real reason for our visit to the Greenwich portion of the National Park on Prince Edward Island.

The work is new but not the idea. There has been a boardwalk over Bowley Pond since the 1990s but this one is new. And a grand one it is!

The trail to the sand dunes at Greenwich leads through the woods and over the pond via a floating boardwalk. It stretches out before you as you leave the forest path.

It is hard to believe this water almost dries up in the summer when you look out over the water today.

There is motion under foot as you traverse the walkway. The motion is more pronounced if a group of people is with you, though not frightening. There are several places where you can pause to take in the setting,

to look out at the dunes on shore

and the grasses and cattails in the water,

or the boardwalk itself.

Like so much of life, it is all about the journey.

It is so beautiful, Marie. How I wish I could visit there! But your pictures and text are a good substitute. Thank you for sharing. :-)

They've made a good job of it Marie, looks really well built! Boardwalks are such an excellent idea, they give a whole new perspective to lake and marshy areas! Cute wee warbler ☺

what a beautiful view from the "moving" walkway (i would have to prepare myself for that)!! nonetheless, the walkway itself is beautiful as well...it is hard to image all that water could be dried up!!

the warbler is beautiful, what a great image!!!

I love love love that boardwalk. Boardwalks and bridges are some of my very favorite things. I'll have top read it all again just to see the nature you've described. The boardwalk distracted me.

The instant I read "boardwalk", I had to see it. My stomach is still quivering, thanks to my head. I've walked boardwalks over ponds and marshes, with no hand rails (years ago), without a qualm. I knew when I read the word boardwalk, it would be different this time. I wonder if I could do it. The beauty is for certain.

What a glorious idea - and execution.
I suspect the motion would bother me - and know I would persist. And be glad of it.

It may take some time before you could walk one like this one, Joanne. But, you would be able to do it eventually.

It would be worth it, EC.

I was on a floating boardwalk about a month ago at Elk Island National Park here in Alberta. It freaked me out a bit at first, but I got used to it quickly.

A really nice place. Hard to imagine it dried up though.
