We stopped at the local coffee shop recently to have lunch. My husband and I like to try their seasonal offerings of flavoured lattes. This is a locally owned business, not that famous franchise which many Canadians frequent.
The building was built in 1895 for a local newspaper. It is red brick and has a rounded corner which allows a view in three directions.
There is a table with two cozy chairs in front of the corner window, the prime location if you are ever lucky enough to find them empty.
The building also had a brief stint as a bank. The old vault is still there and can be reserved for small groups in the private setting.
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, a great place to visit with family and friends. A nogger latte made the experience perfect. Next time we’ll try the rum butter.

I would love this place, too! My favorite is Avellino's on Railroad Avenue in Bellingham. But you already knew that, Marie. I am now enjoying a hemp latte in the mornings. :-)
I love lattes, but a relatively new (last year or so) issue with dairy makes it impossible for me to drink them anymore, and I hate almond/soy milks. Glad you had a great time, though!
I think the building is fabulous.
this is something i never do. i don't drink coffee and i only drink tea at home, i have no idea why. especially because i love a cute coffee shop like this. set up and decorated so well - we do try to support local shops of any kind, instead of chains.

It looks like a delightful spot! Independents have so much more character than franchises.

Local is always better as far as I'm concerned Marie, the big companies can look after themselves, it's the smaller local businesses that need our help. Your local coffee shop looks fab, love the old building.

What an amazing building. My mildly claustrophobic (and highly imaginative) self would have to pass on the bank vault experience though.
Funny I didn't think of this before...I work in a building that is a former bank (not a cool historic building). The old vault is our supply and file room!!
Lovely to see that this historic building has a new lease of life as a coffee shop! We have so many good independent coffee shops we have to take it turns to visit them! Sarah x
Great old building, very attractive. We just had two new coffee shops open in the last six months. One is part of a business that's been there for eight decades and the other is new but in an old building. We frequent them both every now and them. Take turns and spread the wealth as they like to say.

I always wished I was one of those people who had a favorite coffee place, but never frequented such as i always lived in the suburbs or country. Maybe some day. Yours sounds perfect!

We have some coffee shops around here.The shops are crowded with the local University students.After their schools,they stop at the coffee shops to read books or studying there for hours. Or you can see some studying English conversation there as a temporary class from Native teachers. Japan is crowded country, so we have few public places. My English teacher from Canada sadly says that.

I do not have a favourite coffee shop. I detest going to Tim Hortons and sit there. Whenever a friend suggests a Tim Hortons to meet I decline.
I like going to a tea shop when I visit small towns. The ambience is so different, so cozy and nice.
There are lovely teas at this place too, Catarina.
I've got two, and rarely drop into that other one. Nice to know the people serving you.
I have to ask, what's a nogger latte? Is it a Canadian thing? A butter rum latte sounds delicious. My favorite coffee shop is Kaminsky's in Charleston, SC. It's so good! And it's in a neat old building. We always go there at least once, usually two or three times, when we're in Charleston. Locally, I stick with Starbucks. I just haven't found a local coffee shop I like as much.
I feel the need to clarify my harsh comment (even if it is not that important! : ))
I do not find Tim Hortons a great place to socialize, to meet friends, that is true, but when I need – sporadically – a plain donut fix, I pass by Tim Hortons. When I need gift cards for the great staff who take care of my mom in the nursing home… I go to Tim Hortons. : ))
