Tea parties

Our granddaughters wanted a tea party. We hadn’t had one with them in a while so one day early in December, when their mother was working, my grandson and I made muffins for a tea party.

When the girls came from school we were ready. The table was set with the good China and the children picked their favourite cups, all of which were my mother’s. Mom would have loved to see her great grandchildren using these cups.

We talked as we drank herbal pomegranate tea and ate the chocolate chip muffins. The youngest, at three, didn’t have as long an attention span as the girls but he lasted 45 minutes. I told them about my mother, Mary, and about her use of these same cups.

The girls recalled their experience of High Tea at a hotel on one of their trips to London when they visited their grandparents in England. The children have travelled a great deal and enjoy experiences in the places they visit. I shared some of the experiences their grandfather and I have had on the trips we’ve taken.

Over Christmas, we had a second tea party and enjoyed a selection of the cookies we baked for Christmas. Ours had been frozen in an effort to prevent my husband and me from eating them. However, we haven’t found a cookie which can’t be eaten frozen, much to our chagrin, though 95% of them had survived. We shared them with our neighbours too.

The children enjoyed the tea party and ate all of the cookies called Moose Farts. So much for high brow conversation over tea when you can have a few giggles over Moose Farts just to keep it real.

The recipe for Moose Farts is

here.

There's nothing like a tea party! I've enjoyed more than a few good High Teas in my time, although I must confess that Moose Farts, or even Unicorn Farts, were never served at them. Now they seem deficient to me.

I too have never found a cookie that didn't taste good frozen. What a sweet thing to do, have High Tea with one's grands. :-)

Hello,

The tea parties with your grandchildren sound fun! I am not sure of cookies would survive with my hubby nearby, he loves the sweets.
Take care, I wish you a happy new week!

That (and the recipe) sounds wonderful. The very sweetest of memories - I smiled to see a unicorn farts version on the recipe page too.

Delightful...
I love tea parties.
I've only been to one high tea and that was years ago.
Wish I had some little ones around to do that again.
Today one of my Grands turns 21. Where does the time go?
I do enjoy the special times we have had our Granddaughters over for a weekend and do special dinners and breakfasts with the "Good" china etc.
Thanks for bringing some very wonderful memories to my mind.

I am in a giggling mood, and that part about not finding a cookie that can't be eaten frozen is hilarious!

what a fun day. I love tea parties. My Grand Girls did not spend much time here this Christmas and I really missed them and such fund adventures.

I am sure the tea party was enjoyed by all. It has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland quality about it! We did it once for the two girls next door when they were younger, but I don't think they got as much out of it as your grandchildren did.

What a great idea! I've made Moose Farts and love them. In fact, I have all the ingredients around right now, so I may whip up a batch. They are very sticky though before being rolled in the graham cracker crumbs. I chilled the dough for the hour the recipe called for, but I may do longer next time.

Delightful times with your grands! I'm looking forward to spring tea parties with mine! Giggling over Moose Farts would be a lot of fun!

Sounds like lots of fun and you are lucky that you can do this. I am finally finding that 10 months of living in the house or the garden is getting the better of me despite going for walks alone. Fortnightly we go shopping and that is the only time we both can get out. Keep safe Diane
