The Delta variant of the Covid 19 virus caused a fourth wave in Atlantic Canada. All four provinces have seen an increase in infections with New Brunswick the hardest hit. Here on Prince Edward Island, we have a 94% first vaccination rate and 87% fully vaccinated. Our province has a Vax Pass as well, issued when one is fully vaccinated, which allows entry to non-essential businesses and services.
Shortly after school began, an outbreak in several schools east of us, caused a few anxious weeks but Public Health managed the situation and quickly contained the outbreak. Cases now are related to travel. Masks are in use again though I continued to use them at the stores. Children in school above Grade 3 must use a mask all day now. A children’s vaccine, ages 5-11, will be welcome here.
In September, we met our first Blogger friends, David and Miriam Gascoigne. I follow David’s blog, https://travelswithbirds.blogspot.com/ and enjoy his expertise on feathered friends and Miriam’s photography. It was wonderful to spend some time with them.
If you follow my blog regularly, you know my husband and I have picnics as we walk and ride the beaches and trails on the island. Of course we had a picnic with David and Miriam and enjoyed every minute with them on a lovely September day. Blogging expands your world via computer and meeting fellow bloggers is an added bonus.
I had another accident on my bike. This time I fell off my bike on a trail through the National Park at Brackley. I am not sure what happened but I went down hard and went to Emergency at the local hospital to be checked out. After some tests and X-rays, I was diagnosed with a cracked rib. Bruising on my right side is bad and I am sore. It is the worst injury I have ever had. I didn’t realize how much I rely on my abdominal muscles until they became sore.
We were helped at the accident scene by a wonderful couple from Montreal who was vacationing on the island. Several other people stopped and offered assistance. People are kind.
In other medical news, I am having cataract surgery tomorrow. I had an appointment with the ophthalmologist in late September and he evaluated my need for surgery as urgent. There is a huge difference between the vision loss in my right and left eyes which affects my sight tremendously. The doctor told me it could be a wait of two to three months but there was a cancellation and they are fitting me in tomorrow. I look forward to this surgery and who knows, maybe it will reduce my bike accidents too.
See you all in a month or so. Take care.

Best of luck on the surgery, and I look forward to seeing you back in good health.
Sorry to hear about your bike accident and cracked rib. Ouch! Good luck with your cataract surgery, I'm sure it will make a big difference. And how lovely to meet a blogging buddy -- always a good time!
I know all about accident and have had my share of them, so I am wishing you a quick recovery. I had cataract surgery a few year ago, the best thing I've done in awhile. Big difference in my vision, although it hasn't made me any less clumsy. :-)
Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your accident, I am sure a cracked rib is very painful. It is nice your could meet with blogger David and Miriam.
Sending prayers and healing wishes for you and your eye surgery. Take care, have a great week!
Heal well and easily. My cataract surgery was easy and I was amazed at the wonderful change in vision, colors I didn't know I was missing. Sending you hugs.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are okay.
Sorry about the outbreaks but....
Well, our youngest Grand... One of his classmates had IT, and all had to stay home for 10 days, but no others got IT. I simply do not believe IT is truly (tests do not always work properly) as "They" tell us.
And I feel it is child abuse, to inject 5 year olds with this experimental thing. <---My feeling.

"Could be a wait of 2 to 3 months for cataract surgery..."
Now this is why I do not believe in National Health Care. Here, we had our surgery right away. No waiting.
Very sorry about your accident. That is a painful result.
Now this will not sound good I know.... But, if you don't know how it happened... Do you think it is time to reconsider the riding? Or at least, the areas you choose to ride on?
Praying for a complete recovery of your rib and your eyesight.
Looking forward to your return.
Sue
I knew that you had met up with David and Miriam. I have found blog meet ups to be WONDERFUL.
Ouch on the fall, something I do more often (from my feet) than I would like.
And good luck with the surgery. I hope it goes really, really well. I will be thinking of you.
Sorry to hear about your bike accident. Take care and good luck with the cataract surgery. Sending healing vibes your way.
Marie this wishes you a speedy and successful recovery from your surgery, cracked rib and your confidence to return to cycling the lanes you so love and share with us. ❤️
Ouch! I have had broken ribs. It really hurts.
Ouch! Those falls are not good. Hope you heal quickly.
Glad you guys got together, and good luck with your surgery.
So glad you met David and Miriam.
Best wishes on your recovery and your surgery.
Bike accidents can happen. I know. I had them. I hope you recuperate rapidly. Much success fir the eye surgery.
After putting it off, because I am essentially blind in one eye, I finally had the other cataract dealt with. A whole new world came to me. It is still wonderful. I hope yours goes well, and it is such a common surgery with very very rare complications, that I am hoping for the best.
(I have had two cracked ribs in my life. Do you have a rib belt? I think that's what they call it. Just cinches you up so you can cough or laugh without doubling over!!)
Hang in there!
So sorry to hear of your accident! I hope you recover from that quickly and hope the cataract surgery goes well.
Having accident at middle age plus can be hard on ole body. To me your numbers are great when comes to vaccine. My state of Idaho is about 42%. My county of Boundary is not quite at 30%.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Oh Marie, so sorry to hear you came off your bike again (and yes, people are wonderful). Hope your cataract surgery goes really well and you will soon be up and biking around again - and able to see everything clearly once more :)
Hugz, Mxx
Let me assure you, Marie and Rick, that the pleasure we derived from our time together is incalculable. Maybe it was the inspiration for us to serve quinoa salad as part of Thanksgiving dinner yesterday! I have had cataract surgery and there is nothing to it, but the benefits are instant and wonderful. I suspect that your mishaps on the bike might well have something to do with impaired vision. Good luck!
Hope all goes well with the surgery today. And that your aching rib eases soon.
And how lovely to meet fellow bloggers. I have met a few who have all turned out to be lovely.
Ouch! Sorry about the injury. Heal fast.
Sounds like your island and Canada is doing a bang up job of controlling this pandemic without a lot of moaning and whining! I can’t say the same for your neighbors to the south - US. I live in Maryland and we have pretty high vaccine compliance and fairly low death rates. But there are places in the US where folks just don’t want the shot - and it totally blows my mind! I’d much rather have the shot and the side effects that some have (I had no side effects), then get Covid - be sick enough to need hospitalization and maybe die. And then there are the folks with Covid problems AFTER they recover from the initial illness. Sometimes I think half of my fellow citizens have totally lost their minds. Or maybe we are still living with the Trump-effect down here. Anyway - I’ll stop ranting now. Good luck with the cataract surgery. I had both eyes done probably 20 years ago. Easy surgery and great results. Take care.
I am very sorry that you had a bicycle accident ... Broken ribs are very painful.
All the best from me for your eye surgery, I am sure that you will then be able to ride a bike more safely. I keep my fingers crossed for a quick heal. All the best wishes and greetings from Viola
So sorry about your fall! It sounds painful. The kindness of others is heartwarming. I've had both my eyes done; it was such a huge relief and improvement.
I was so happy with my eyesight after my cataract surgery. If I had known the difference it would make I would have done it sooner. Well, probably not, because I was really nervous but then I'm a nervous nelly when it comes to medical issues. See better soon.
Prayers for your good health
The surgery might help with getting around, balance and such. A bit of blurry is not a good way to see the world. The kindness of people is spirit enriching. Stay Safe
Sorry to hear about your accident. Best wishes on your recovery and your surgery. Sending you lots of hugs.
Sorry to hear about your cycling accident. I've ridden a bike all my life but have managed to fall off a couple of times recently - once when standing still! The joys and adventures of senior years! Hope you mend quickly and all the best with the eye-surgery.
I hope you heal well from both events.
Falling and any kind of accident is frightening especially when you crack something. So sorry. Hope all goes well with your eye surgery and that you will be back out biking and taking your beautiful photos soon.
So sorry about the ribs. I've done that too. How wonderful that you are getting your eye fixed. You will love being able to see again.
I am so sorry for the accident. It's never fun but ribs are the worst.
I wish you a speedy recovery on both the ribs and the eyes. And back to your meanderings and roamings as soon as possible.
Take care♥
ooooh marie, i am so very sorry to read about your fall, broken ribs can be so painful.
i know you really enjoy your rides...i enjoy mine too. i think i sent you an article about the fact that some electric bikes may not be balanced correctly, attributing to falls. i joined a computer group for my type of electric bike and it seems a lot of people are falling on them. as you know, i have fallen several times on mine, but have not been able to ride this season!!
good luck with your surgery...i will miss you here and look forward to your return!!
I'm reading this late in the week. Ouch to the broken rib. I hope your cataract surgery is successful and you will soon be back with us. Take good care.
I have been paying attention to the Covid situation in your province.
I read David's posts and I can imagine the wonderful time you had together.
So sorry about your accident and surgery. I am wishing you a quick recovery.
Oh my goodness, I have broken ribs 3 times so I feel for you. I hope the cataract surgery goes well. I have been warned that I might need surgery in a couple of years but not necessary at present. Fingers crossed mine gets no worse.
Please take care and keep safe, Diane
Oh, Marie. I am so sorry to read about your bike accident!!! And it doesn't help when it happens as we get older, I know! It totally rattlers our cage. I'll go to your next post to read how you're doing and how the cataract surgery went. In the meantime, take care of yourself!
precious Marie the accident story made my eyes teary ,i am sorry you went through such painful experience !
yes people are kind ,specially when such accidents happen people help to reach hospital and all ,his give hope for better world indeed .
i could not know that i was loosing my left eye sight slowly if i would have not started daily meditation (reading holy book daily) .within sometime i learnt that my right eye vision is clear but left eye vision is blurred . then i noticed that while looking at page i focus more with my right eye than left one ,i started to keep my right eye closed during reading and i did this for years .it increased the performance of my left eyes miraculously and it was hard to believe that ,that idea worked for me .
i wish you best of luck for the surgery !
how nice to be able to meet one of your blogger friend couple :)
yes blogging extend our world and for better that any other online social platform .i think people like me who live in physically restricted conditions can understand it in best way .
may you heal soon dear Marie thinking of you with heart filled with prays !
hugs.
Sending Love And Light - Enjoy The Weekend
