Notes from the island

It has turned cold between a few mild days with 10 degrees. The temperatures are more in the low single digits now and the overnights often are below freezing. A week of rain is in the forecast with high winds early in the week. We can’t complain though when we compare our weather to the west coast of Canada. With the fires of the past season and now the rain, the west coast is suffering. People here can empathize with the farmers and their losses and the devastation on so many levels.

Christmas shopping is going well and I hope to finish next week. I am shopping locally as much as possible though it doesn’t help when a clerk comments, “No, we don’t carry that item. Have you tried on-line?”

Our daughter, a nurse, is working this Christmas. Therefore our Christmas celebration will be later that week, just before New Year’s. My husband and I will have a quiet Christmas Day.

Lately we’ve been walking between the raindrops in our warmest winter clothes. It takes time to acclimatize to the winter weather again. We haven’t given up on another picnic using our stove but it won’t be this week. I’ll be walking on the treadmill at home. We really miss our walks in nature though.

I am having cataract surgery on the second eye tomorrow. This requires three days of a drop regimen in that eye. However on one occasion, I dosed the good eye with the drops. Six weeks of drops in that now good eye made it hard to remember to dose the other one. At least I caught the mistake.

I won’t be blogging for a few weeks though I will follow your posts. Take care everyone. To my American blogging friends, Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope all goes well.
The car told me the external temperature this morning was 1.5 degrees, which is quite cold for us. Walking well wrapped up was fine though.

I hope your eye surgery goes well, Marie. Like you, I'm almost done my Christmas shopping, and tried to do mostly local, too. It is difficult sometimes.
The devastation from the floods has been really incredible and we are noticing empty shelves in our stores (but there is still plenty), and we have gas rationing (30 l) limit. We have much to be thankful for, considering the losses some have suffered.
Take care and I hope you heal well.

Good luck with the surgery. We've not had good weather of late, but as you said; still better than the West Coast. We had a lovely Thanksgiving and probably will do the same for Christmas, just keeping things small to stay away from large groups. Take Care.

Good luck with your cataract surgery. I had one eye done (the other doesn't need it yet) which leaves me in the strange situation of having very different vision in each eye. Seems to work out fine, though. Somehow I have gotten used to it!

WOW....10 degrees. That is crazy. Here in Tennessee we have had a few cold days but we keep bouncing from 70s to the 40s and back to the 70s. Last weekend 75, and this Sat. will be 72. Winter/ Mother Nature has not a clue!!

best wishes for your surgery dear Marie !

it makes me sad too that your walks will be restricted due to winters ,i will be missing the soul refreshing images i see at your blog and feel like a magical window i have opened towards the heaven . each weather has unique beauty though your winters compete to our summers in harshness which make mobility impossible till they last .
best wishes for the Christmas shopping too .
be well ,health ,peace and happiness to you and yours!
