Visitors

We anticipate our first hike and picnic for this year but the wait continues. While it doesn’t have to be warm, the wind has been the ever present deterrent in the last few weeks. On our only pleasant day in recent weeks we had appointments. Meanwhile, Georgie, the golden grand-dog is visiting while her family is out of town.

We enjoy taking Georgie to the boardwalk, a place she loves and where we see some visitors to the island.

The arrival of our warm weather feathered friends has begun. The Red-winged Blackbirds came back this past week and announced their arrival with their calls from the trees overlooking the stream.

We suspect the males are calling their lady friends.

Along the water’s edge at the mouth of the stream, another visitor, a lone Kildeer fed along the icy shoreline.

It was puffed up against the cold. Its arrival is a bit premature according to conditions along the shoreline.

While the squirrels have been out and about all winter, now the chipmunks are emerging from their nests and burrows having weathered another winter. This one is enjoying the spotlight.

Georgie enjoys the area immensely. There is never a shortage of other dogs walking with their owners and she sniffs every one and the scent along the trail of those who have gone before. Georgie watches over my husband and I as we walk. She doesn’t want to be out of sight of either of us. Usually he is in the lead with her, while I lag behind taking photos. Georgie stops every so often to see where I am. If I am what she judges to be too far behind, she plants her feet and refuses to move until I catch up. She does the same if my husband is the one following.

We seniors stick together as we enjoy what nature has to offer.

We are right on the cusp of spring now, Marie. A little patience is all that is required.

Such cute creatures in today's post! Soon enough you'll be going out on your walks.
We've actually had the windows open here at night for a change.

In Spring time everyone wants to be outdoors! I love the song of the red-winged blackbird. I hope things warm up for you soon, and the wind dies down.

I haven't seen chipmunks yet, but that doesn't mean they're not around.

It's cold here today. The temperatures are due to moderate on Wednesday.

Georgie having a snooze is an appealing sight.

How fun that Georgie keeps track of everyone.

It's good that you have a reason to get out on the trails. Dogs make people get out.

I really really love your wild life pictures. So crystal clear. You must have a great camera. But that pooch! Such a dear dear dog!

It still looks mighty chilly to me! I enjoyed my first prolonged sit-in-the-sun yesterday, closing my eyes and listening to the sounds of nature. The little chiffchaff was the only visitor I heard, though others are also arriving. I'm glad to see that you have Georgie organising your walks.

Sounds like so much fun babysitting for your grand dog. I love the photo of the chipmunk. We do not see chipmunks where we live in Philadelphia. Your photos are beautiful . Thanks.

Having a dog around makes all the mundane activities seem more exciting, doesn't it?

That is so sweet the way the dog wants the "pack" to stay close.

Nice visitors to have come out for pics to be made.

So hard to believe it is spring, especially as I see on the webcam, that it has been snowing all day.
Georgie is absolutely adoreable and the chipmunk just the sweetest.
What a shame you were busy on that lovely day. This walk looks very bracing and invigorating.

how sweet that Georgie keeps an eye out for you ... while the adorable little chipmunk is having a grand time too.

Good for Georgie, she knows how to look after her people. She's getting quite white around the muzzle isn't she. My granddog Tessa (golden doodle) is 14-1/2 now, she is still fairly lively but definitely starting to slow down a bit. And she's deaf!

I like the photo of the chipmunk, but I'm not familiar with it. I'm googling now.. Thank you for sharing.

Great photos. I love the animals and Georgie is so cute: the perfect friend for outdoor activities.
Now that I am a retired man I also enjoy more the nature and the hidden corners of the cities.

I'm glad to see you are finally enjoying the outdoors. I don't even remember when was the last time I went to the park. Either it's raining, or snowing, or it is too windy... or I'm too busy. I hope to see this winter over for good!!

birds images are delightful and so is the story of your darling Georgie :)

Love Georgia and he loves you. Your bird photos are beyond excellent. I think I feel the feathers of birds in your shots. When I say I would love to live in Nova Scotia, people say you would not like the winter, but your winter seems full of life and very pretty. I am glad you will soon have some spring weather.

Oh, I know I would love Georgie! I bet she loves staying with you two.
