Notes from the island

The sun is rising earlier everyday for another few weeks and light lingers in the western sky well after 10 p.m. every evening. These glorious days of expanding light are my favourite time of year even though nature is never sure what temperature to provide with them. While it’s been colder than average for a few weeks, the new green of spring has finally erupted from the buds and the glade at the Grove is in fine form again. Yay!

It’s been an interesting few months around the island as the pandemic guidelines and regulations have eased and tourist season approaches. Life is feeling more like the pre pandemic normal now though many seniors, besides me, continue to wear masks in the grocery store, theatre etc. My husband and I had the second booster last week and will continue to take boosters as long as they are recommended.

We have delayed gardening and some painting outside this spring until this past week when it was colder and we stayed closer to home. While weeding and mulching are complete, planting in the vegetable patch is delayed for another week at least as is the painting, both requiring warmer days.

This past month, we reconnected with David and Miriam. David is a blogger from Ontario I have followed for several years. My husband and I met them when they came to Prince Edward Island last September and again last month. David’s blog is at   https://travelswithbirds.blogspot.com

Last week, we met with Helen and her husband, Frank. Helen is a blogger from Australia. They have family here on the island and are visiting after more than two long years away from their family because of Covid. Helen’s blog is at   http://outandabout3.blogspot.com

When we met with David and then Helen, we had a picnic and a walk at Cavendish Grove each time. It is wonderful to be able to share our favourite places with visitors to the island and to get to know fellow bloggers better. It is amazing though that by the time I meet another blogger personally, it’s as if I know them already. Blogging expands one’s life in many wonderful ways. Meeting a fellow blogger is probably what it was like to meet a pen pal when letter writing was the way we communicated.

We may be able to connect with another blogger next weekend if the weather and time permit. It is good to be living a “normal” life again.

How wonderful to meet up with other bloggers - and to discover that you already know and like them.
And hooray for greening up.

You have been the social butterfly meeting with all these blogger friends. I do think it is like meeting a pen pal in person. I love that top picture of the very green trail. Nature makes me happy.

Lovely nature observations. and yes, the times I've met internet friends it's been very easy and natural, since we knew each other's thinking already.

Oh my, that woodland is so inviting. I can see why you enjoy walking there.

I've yet to meet any fellow bloggers IRL, but I certainly feel like I know several of them very well. The restrictions as a result of the pandemic have never felt overly onerous, I think in part, because I have such a wonderful community here in the blogging world.

Blogger friends and visits are priceless.

Wearing of masks got to me so I dropped them about 2 months ago. I just couldn't stand the mask as I couldn't control the fog on my glasses.

How splendid to connect with sympatico bloggers. I have only ever met one blogger that I did not already know - AC, of course, by chance in a shop. We then picnicked together, since another blogger I follow is their niece.
That photo could grace an Anne book cover. Lovely.

That is a fabulous picture. I looked at it for a long time with enjoyment. And yes, blogging has sure changed my life, for one. I can't imagine losing my virtual friends and love to hear how they are doing. I wish I could get to PEI to visit! :-)

Life there sounds idyllic at the moment and perfect weather. I love these long light evenings, especially at the moment when we seem to have so much to do. We also wear masks when out and we have both now had 4 vaccines.
Take care and enjoy the Island. Cheers Diane

Marie, I totally agree with your pen pal analogy. I have often thought that blogging is its modern form. Meeting you last week felt as if I was meeting with a lifetime friend. So many similar interests and love of nature. Beautiful!

How interesting that the sun remains visible for so long, where you live.

Mid Summer is near June 21st I think...

Then it goes the other way again...

Lovely to meet like minded bloggers... And show them, your Home Area.

Hi Marie, It really is a small world at times! This morning I was reading David’s blog (Travels With Birds) and noticed he mentioned seeing Rick and Marie while visiting PEI. I wondered, at the time, if that was Island Musings’ Marie, and sure enough, it was. That is so cool! In this post, you said, “Life is feeling more like the pre pandemic normal now though many seniors, besides me, continue to wear masks in the grocery store…” That is exactly the way I’m thinking about things here in Seattle. I keep recalling, from long ago, my dad saying, better to be safe than sorry. :-) It is really neat to get back to enjoying some of my favorite blogs and yours is definitely one. Thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog today. Have a good week ahead. John

Like you, I love it when the first bright green leaves appear in spring. Our trees are now heavy with darker leaves. I've only ever met a couple of bloggers and they were my cousins!
