Through the open door

For a few glorious days every summer, the peonies bloom in the front yard. A few days without strong winds and rain mean we can enjoy the blooms, soaking up their beauty for another year.

A flower such as this,

opens the last of its petals to reveal its inner loveliness.

Another variety of pink has a much fuller bloom, more to enjoy.

A hint of pink and a variety of petals give depth to these blooms.

These pink buds

open to be the size of dinner plates.

The beauty of this blossom

or the miniature blooms of an astilbe nearby, are eye catching in their whiteness.

The red ones are relatively small

when they burst open but expand to greet the world for a few short days.

In July, the blooms take over the garden and make us smile.

Meanwhile, a new resident has settled into the neighbourhood

and has been drinking from the local watering hole.

This young fox spent some time there this past week and provided an opportunity for some photos from the balcony.

It is a beauty, with its red fur and black boots. It paused several minutes at the water, probably watching its reflection.

Sometimes one merely has to open the door.

I simply adore all of your peonies. They are like fluffy cotton candy, especially the second flower you posted. It looks like an oil painting.

I am revelling in the glorious colour of your peonies. And beautifully captured. My mother had them and loved them, so these photos bring that back for me.
And your fox is handsome. I particularly love the reflection shot.
A nice treat for today. Thank you!

Gorgeous peonies and fox. The blooms don't last long enough, all summer would be wonderful.

The peonies are gorgeous! I remember my mom had peonies on the farm and she would cut a bloom and bring it in the house, such a wonderful odor.
I had one in the back yard but lifted it when the landscaping started. It is in a container and still alive but it certainly won't bloom this year. I do hope to have another garden to plant it in.
The fox is simply adorable.

Our peonies have come and gone. They don’t last for long, do they? Great to see the fox - a gorgeous creature.

Such beauty! Our peonies were over with back in May, so it is a pleasure to see yours now. Your garden must be heavenly. The fox is such a vibrant color. Afraid I am no lover of them however, the chicken thieves! But I do love to see them in the wild.

Flowers and an animal (fox). We are to enjoy their beauty, and protect them both. They are here for us; for our pleasure and sense of responsability.

oooooh marie, the blooms are so gorgeous. i love peony but don't have any in my garden, i may have to change that!! the neighborhood ones bloomed so long ago, it was nice to see yours today. i had astilbe, but the gardener cut them all back!! i will never use him again!!

and the fox, admiring himself in the puddle, that's a great picture!! the ones i saw at the den at the beach have moved on, until next year when i will see them again!!!

I love peonies. Yours are so pretty. The pink ruffled ones are my favourites. Our peonies bloomed in May when it was very hot here and they went over quickly. So it's lovely to see your blooms.

Beautiful blooms. As for the fox, I feel for all the critters that I see out and about here at home esp during the day. Used to we would see deer out at dawn and dusk, now you can see them out and about anytime during the day, same with skunks and critters like your fox. Building here seems to be pushing them out from the places they call home.

Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. I miss growing them, the fragrance in particular. The one in the second picture from the top is really lovely. I’ve not seen a variety like that before.

Your peonies are gorgeous and I am feeling a little envious :)
Our temperatures here are too warm to grow them but I have admired them in a friends garden further south where the winters are colder. They really are beautiful blooms xx
