This photo was taken on the brightest day we’ve had in two weeks.
While the sun didn’t break through that day, the sky brightened compared to how it looks in fog, wind and rain.
The salt marsh has changed dramatically. The high winds and sea washed away the seaweed dam at the mouth of the stream and the marsh is draining again.
Seaweed covers the area now but the ducks continue to enjoy the area though some have moved up stream.
The amount of seaweed was enough for a gull to drop by the marsh. It is the first time we have seen them land there.
On a day without strong wind, though it was wet, the animals were out and about. A Hairy Woodpecker was busy, willing to steal peanuts left among the trees by a squirrel who was glad to take some from us.
A unusual sight was a Red Squirrel without a tail. It gathered peanuts left on the boardwalk and took them away for winter storage.
This is the first squirrel without a tail we’ve seen but it is quite common. Its name is Bobbie.
Meanwhile, around town a Cybertruck is causing a stir. One day, the vehicle was parked at the hospital and our daughter took our grandson to see it. Of course she took photos. Two days later, as we parked by Credit Union Place, CUP, for a walk on the track, we spotted the vehicle nearby. A photo was necessary then too. I guess when you own a Cybertruck you expect to attract attention.
We walked at CUP this past weekend too and the place was busy. The facility has two ice surfaces, a pool, gym, convention center and meeting rooms. On the weekend, girls’ hockey teams were playing games on the main ice surface both mornings.
On the second surface, Saturday, figure skating lessons were on-going while Sunday, young boys hockey teams played there.
Dozens of parents quietly watched the pool from a viewing area as their kids took lessons. However, never underestimate how loud parents can be when cheering for their kids at a hockey game.
Meanwhile, we have the grandkids next weekend and have plans to do some Christmas baking and crafts with them. We had some items to buy in preparation and did the shopping two mornings last week. The stores were busy and I experienced several typical Canadian moments.
Canadians say, “Sorry,” for everything. As I came up one aisle and turned into another, another shopper coming down stopped so as to avoid a collision. Of course she said, “Sorry,” as did I. I noticed the word four other times those days.
We almost need a sorry about this weather, though sorry isn’t enough. Sunlight is past due though not in the forecast for the third week.
Sorry.
Hope the weather is better where you are.

That is duck weather for sure! I don't quite get those trucks, not for me, thank you.
Your comment about “sorry” makes me smile. Add it to the list of reasons I like Canada. 😊 As always, lots of interesting photos. I love the image of the two families of Mallards out for a walk on the seaweed.
What an enormous single wiper blade that cybertruck has! I've never seen one here in Edmonton yet.
I actually saw the sun briefly yesterday - it was a relief after a few days of overcast sky and a dump of snow. Back into the clouds again today, though.
That's a lot of seaweed, though I'm sure it provides much nutrients to the marsh as it breaks down.
Bobbie (ha ha), the squirrel is cute.
Enjoy your time with the grands!
Hello,
The ducks do not seem to mind the weather. Cute photos of the ducks, gull and the squirrel without a tail. The Hairy Woodpecker is a favorite. I have seen one of those vehicles, just my opinion but they are ugly. Christmas activities with the grandkids sounds fun! Take care, have a great day and a happy new week.
We tend to get more sunny days than grey ones, but it does weigh in you when the sun goes away. The birds and squirrels don't seem to register it, just adapt to whatever's going.
Wishing you Blue Skies & Sunny Days! If Mother Nature doesn't bring them, the grandkids will!!
We had some sun yesterday but rain today. Sorry for taking your sun away for a day. :)
A fine, sunny day here. Sorry about that if you still are fogged in. I love the shot of the ducks in the red muddy water. So very, very PEI in the mind of this Ontarian. (Ew. Ontarioan? What???)
Marie, so 'sorry' to read that the weather is so miserable. Each and every photo emphasises the sorry state of it. I recall that we had a discussion re the Canadian use of the word sorry. I always love seeing the salt marsh and its wildlife but today the extent of CUP and that Cybertruck caught my attention. Happy cooking and crafting with your grandees next weekend.
Love those ducks and wish that we could have some of your rain. It is predicted this week (again) but so are hot temperatures.
Enjoy your time with your grandchildren - as I know you will. Happy baking too.
Sorry to hear the weather is so bad. Here, it is mostly sunny here, but a few days ago it was snowing for some hours. It was wonderful! Sending you some sunshine!
The ducks must be enjoying the weather! Enjoy your cozy time with the grand babies!
We have seen one of those Cyber trucks in our neighborhood lately too. It certainly isn't my cup of tea but it does get a lot of attention.
Love your photos of all the marsh critters. Never have seen a squirrel without a tail..interesting.
Sue
Is there a tale about the tail, or is it a genetic anomaly?
So a very poor forecast for quite some time. Weather was good enough to be out on the trails. It's great that you will do baking with kids.
AC, if a squirrel is grabbed by the tail or it is caught in a tree as an example, the tail can come off and the squirrel can survive without it.
Water off an ducks back.
That weather, as here, calls for a nice cozy fire and a good book...I do have a good read but not a fire in the fireplace.. We had a bit of sun yesterday, not a minute of it today, but supposed to return tomorrow for the day. Which I will believe when I see it.
I simply cannot reconcile that vehicle with a car.
Great weather for ducks here too.
We have gone through some wet weather, too, but it looks like it might be nice for a few days, just in time for Thanksgiving here in the US.
i am happy you got some light to enjoy the views and walk dear Marie
ducks look happy as well ,they surly miss the seaweed on marsh
i will search what the cybertruck is actually sounds some new kind of interesting vehicle :)
hope you will enjoy time with grandkids and i pray and hope sun break through
I would actually welcome your weather after our drought!
The monochromatic landscape has its own wild beauty, doesn't it?
I hope you get some sun soon.
I've never seen a squirrel with no tail before. It's so cute!
It’s interesting that the expression “Great weather for ducks” has become lingua franca, yet I doubt very much that it is true. Ducks can tolerate a wide variety of conditions and have adaptations to survive them, but I doubt they would concur that it’s great weather!
as a read i wondered if this weather is typical for you?? we are still in a serious drought. we did get one day of rain but things are glim on that end. i enjoyed all of the pictures...seeing a hairy woodpecker is unusual for me, i see downy woodpeckers!! bobbie is a cutie, i always wonder if they remember where they store their nuts?!?! and we see one of the trucks, always at the inlet!!
Beautiful photos, despite the cloudy weather.
I like the woodpecker, we have great spotted woodpeckers and black woodpeckers in the forest and in winter the great spotted woodpecker will come to the feeder.
Poor squirrel, it looks like it's doing just fine - it won't be able to climb and jump so well.
The car is a HIT... futuristic :-)))
Many greetings to you Viola
P.S. you reminded me, last year I saw synchronized skating on the ice... it was so beautiful... I have to see if I can see it again this season.
It’s fascinating to hear how the salt marsh is changing, and how the wildlife adapts to these shifts. From the gull's first visit to the resilient Red Squirrel named Bobbie, nature is always full of surprises. And I love the little details about life in town – the Cybertruck sighting and the lively hockey games make for a fun snapshot of community life. It sounds like you're making the most of winter with some great family plans ahead!
You are invited to read my new post: (https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/11/how-to-create-soft-holiday-glam-5-pro-steps.html).
Debbie, we have wet weather but such a long stretch without any sun is unusual. Tomorrow morning sun will appear after two and a half weeks of wind, rain and fog. We are ready!
Perhaps I have Canadian ancestors: I apologise for everything too. Have you read the tale of Squirrel Nutkin by Beatrix potter? He's a tail-less squirrel too.
I do not like that truck at all. Looks as though it could do serious damage.
That cyber truck is certainly interesting. It doesn’t strike me as something that I would like because I like being surrounded by windows and light, and those strike me as being very dark on the inside. That’s just my take from the picture, I’ve never been close to one.
Here is also a great weather for a duck :) The cybertruck looks, well, strange...
Have a lovely day now!
Hug from Titti
I've seen a few cyber trucks and I just don't like the looks of them, You got some great shots as usual and have really been documenting the weather through photos. Great shot of the squirrel.
I love ducks. Especially with an autumnal background. For me they're autumn's birds.
Oh... I had missed this post. Sorry!
oh wow that cybertruck is amazing. Look at all those lovely ducks and the squirrel. it has been rather grey and rainy here this week; we are in for a long hot summer! and a cyclone or 2. have a great festive season. sherry
