Mint tea reminder

It was a hot, humid September day without the usual breeze. As I walked around the vegetable patch the scent of chocolate mint filled the air.

Every year I plant mint, amid dreams of mint tea. That morning was the reminder and mid morning chocolate mint tea became a requirement.

A chocolate mint plant is a wonder unto itself. We could smell the scent as the tea steeped and later it was a delicate green colour in one of my mother's China cups. The hint of chocolate with the mint was lovely despite the hot day.

I've had an interest in mint tea since we visited Morocco two years ago. Moroccans love their mint tea, with lots of sugar. My husband and I were on a tour which included a visit to the Berber people of Morocco. There we met Lala, a woman who helped support her family when she entertained tourists in her home with a tea party.

Any time I have mint tea, I think about Lala and her people. Wonderful memories!

I think I'd like to smell it in the garden, but ... :)

You remind me that my smeller just doesn't work as well as it used to. I'd love to taste it but probably couldn't smell it. Sigh. :-(

Sounds delightful! I think I need to go to the local herb nursery and get a plant!

I like mint tea. One of my close friends is now traveling Prince Edward island.Yesterday, she sent me a beautiful photo of the sunset. Her photos reminded me of you, of course!

Not a big fan of mint tea but I enjoyed your post on Lala.

Loved your visit to Marrakesh. And how right you are, we do have many more similarities than differences. My partner thoroughly enjoyed Morocco (but doesn't like mint tea).

A chocolate mint plant ... I've never heard of it but I bet it would make your garden feel like a tea room ! What fun.

This plant was a surprise this year. Usually they are just mint here.

She was great! It was so good to hear of her life and see her home. Women are basically the same all over the world when it comes to their families.

Mint tea is delicious to me. It was a great discovery. I like it as iced tea too.

In the right conditions, its scent permeates the garden!

Thanks Marie! I never thought or knew of mint tea. I have mint growing in my bushes! I planted it once and it keeps coming up and will grow above the height of my bushes and I love to just pull it out and smell it. I will have to try this. I'll have to look up the benefits of it too. Andrea

Love the smell of mint. Good thing too as we planted it in the garden of my old house and it took over. As a cover crop it is very nice. Loved the photos of Lala and her house.

This 'summer' the weather here has been so bad (it's raining heavily even as I type this!).
Everything in the garden is looking very sad, some veggies are even starting to rot, particularly the herbs. The mint has decided to die off for the winter, I've lost the comfrey and chives, the parsely as turned yellow (?), I think I shall have to give it thast rites! Looks like I shall have to buy my veg this winter. Sad.

Lala is inspiring! The chocolate mint is wonderful.

Try making the mint tea, baili. You will keep a bit of your Mom's tradition alive.

It is sad, Keith! I fear this weather will become the norm now.
