They look tattered this year. For the last several years, my husband and I have grown sunflowers, though not with great success. There have been different problems over the years; this year insects ate them from their first appearance above the soil. The blooms of those which grew to maturity have been eaten as well and they look disheveled.
However, they maintain their sunny dispositions in the face of all the hardship.
There is much we can learn from these frazzled blooms.
