Daylilies

The colours, sizes and shapes are varied but each is perfect in its own way. My friend Lucy has a beautiful garden in the countryside of Prince Edward Island and the many bushes and blooms are a feast for the eyes. Among my favourites are the day lilies.

There are yellows galore,

even tall yellow ones with spots. My favourite.

Others are pretty in pink, from the hint of pink with a ruffled center,

to the deeper colour with a yellow-green center,

Some have crimpled petals,

while other petals are long and slender.

Some of the most unusual are bi-colour, or tri-colour.

There is an orange lily

and plum coloured ones, to name a few.

Don't get me started on the variety of sedums.

I like daylilies because they are hardy and do well in a part of my garden by the driveway where not much else will thrive. Sadly, they are done for the year.

They are beautiful--and prolific. My grands and I took to calling them ravine lilies. When we thinned them, we put the extra shamelessly over the edge of the ravine. Four years later they were close to knocking on the door.

I love yellow. My yellow spring jacket is my favourite!! I have yellow cardigans... Now that I think about it... Maybe yellow running shoes would look nice on my feet!!... : ))

The day lilies are lovely, and a new blossom every day! I had some nice ones at my previous house, I hope the new owners are enjoying the blooms.

If I had to pick only one plant to have it would be daylillies. The come in some many colors, shapes and sizes. And while wonderfully feminine, the cut flowers are not to girly girly for the family house.

I love them that much too, Barbara!

They're beautiful! I really like the pink ones and the light yellow ones. I like lilies, but we choose not to have them because of the cats, so I love it when people share pictures of theirs.
