The names are Witch’s Way, Canopy, Sawmill and Prince’s Loop. They conjure up images of their own but the Bonshaw Hills Trails are a delight in more than names. These are our favourite images from a recent exploration of these trails:
was a giant woodpecker at work here?
Is this a scene from a science fiction movie, the tendrils of an alien hand creeping over the earth?
Old man's beard covered several trees in one area.
Dog berries are plentiful but are they a harbinger of a bad winter?
The hobbit wasn't home on this day.
Mini maples or Canada trees, as our four year old granddaughter calls them, have taken over this forest floor.
Goldenrod was more than two meters tall in places.
A rock you say? A rarity on this island!
Remnants of an old sawmill cause us to pause and consider how the forest has grown around the remains.
Artifacts from an old homestead are exhibited on one trail.
Colour, light and texture are key elements on these trails.
The golden grand-dog insists on waiting if I fall too far behind. She barks, "Are you finished with that camera yet?" Georgie is accustomed to the wait.

Such lovely pictures, filled with serene summer delights. I like the texture picture the best. I spent quite a bit of time gazing at it. :-)
Lovely trail and being surrounded by nature must be awesome. Great photos and thanks for the journey.
You do live in camera heaven. Thank goodness you have a bouncy dog to move you along.
Beautiful places for walk and taking photos. It's incredible that places like these exists and it's safe to walk there. Beautiful photos!!! Your dog is so cute!!
I enjoy your photos and your imagination very much Marie ☺ Your first image is so curious, what on earth could have created that pattern of holes I wonder?
What a beautiful trail.
You do live in (and share) a wonderful part of the world. Thank you.
I love your tour Marie. It's so wonderful to see where you hike, a lovely place indeed. And no fear if you fall behind, Georgie is there to make sure you stay on the trail. Dogs are wonderful companions to have or visit.
Have a wonderful weekend.

You know your plants well.
I love that one too, Jan.
Being bathed in the green is wonderful, B.
She stops dead in her tracks and won't go further until I catch up with them, Joanne.
We are never concerned about safety, Angela. Maybe we are too naive.
We can't figure that one out, PDP. There is someone I will check with however.
We love our little island, EC.
Georgie is a great companion, Bill. We only borrow her for hikes these days however.
I love to imagine what could be at work on the woodland trails, Debbie. I think that's how some writers create their imaginery worlds. I am not that creative.
I wish I did, AC. I hope to know many more over time. Living on this small island, much of nature has been studied and classified so there is lots of assistance available on-line for identification. I enjoy that part of the process as much as the hikes and the photography.
These are the types of scenes I don't pay enough attention to recently. You remind me that I need to get back to doing this. Things like in your pictures can be fascinating new adventures that most of us miss at first.
The same setting can be photographed from a variety of perspectives and different aspects can be highlighted, Ratty. There is always something different to see.
Lovely photos! I like the 'alien hand'!
That old saw blade reminds of a place we ate at recently called the Sawmill and the server told use the giant round blades came from an old sawmill in BC. They were huge!
The alien hand is a favourite of mine too, Jenn.
This was a fabulous walk! And fabulous pictures, Marie!
Thanks!!!
Just beautiful. You have such an eye. I would love to have the HObbit tree. The grand girl would entertain herself for hours. Cute photo of grand dog. His facial expression is plain to read. Come on now.
Thanks, Catarina. That area is wonderful.
My granddaughters would love the hobbit tree too, Barbara.
