Meanwhile

People across the planet are faced with the reality of the Covid 19 pandemic. Canada, with the rest of the world, is grappling with how to control the rate of infection so as not to overburden the health care system. Here on Prince Edward Island, returning March break vacationers have been urged to self isolate. The three infected people here returned from vacations.

Meanwhile, along the boardwalk, the animals are going about their business as usual. The blue jays are watching every move as walkers often leave peanuts for them. They provide colour among the trees.

A huge murder of crows enjoyed the boardwalk this past winter. Only a few were visible this day but this one was quite loud. It sounded like it was scolding us.

The red squirrels were active. This acrobatic one managed to retrieve seeds from the hanging feeder.

We’d had snow which clung to some of the trees and as the day progressed, water ran down the tree trunks. We watched several minutes as this squirrel licked the water from the trees.

Now that much of human activity has ground to a halt, pollution levels over large cities have decreased tremendously. Is this virus showing us the path forward for the health of the planet? Pandemic for humans means the earth gets a breather.

The decreasing pollution levels should teach us something, but it won't.

It's interesting that we're getting a live demo of what we've done to the air, now that we're forced to slow down. I'm beginning to wonder if nature feels humans have outworn their welcome.

It is good to get out. When we encounter some, we try to leave a lot of space between us.

Nice to see some normality - whatever humans are facing, the natural world is continuing on just like it always has. It is great to see that the earth can regenerate/heal itself, but I doubt if our global population will let that situation remain for long. Stay safe, Mxx

Love all your little creatures you encounter along the way Marie, the blue jays are so pretty. Let's hope something good and positive comes out of this unbelievable situation 💙

Same in our yard, all the critters are playing and happy and getting into trouble. I live in a rural area so not much goes on here in the way of traffic.

Be safe and stay well.

Once humans are let back out into the world I suppose it will be back to business as usual. Hopefully people are using the time to reconnect with the most important things, like family. I have a ongoing group chat with my sisters and we have all never talked so much!

I really hope that our world continues to get a breather.
And would love to see the covid pandemic replaced by one of gentle kindness.

It's nice to get out in nature and enjoy what we see. A drop in the pollution levels is a big benefit to the earth but will it continue when people resume their habits.

There is no place in the world free of contamination, that I know of at least. I hope we all get through this trying time in one piece, together. It's nice to know there are plenty of critters who know nothing of what is going on, and simply concentrate on feeding themselves. :-)

The squirrels are fun to see.

You could well be right and it is showing us how to keep the planet healthy. I understand that Venice has never had such clean waterways and even the dolphins are coming and playing. Keep well Diane

I cannot see behavior changing for the better, but merely returning to normal. As the crow was saying.

Hello,

Love the jay and the red squirrel. I am happy to stay inside and watch the birds out my windows. I was amazed to see photos of the differences in pollution in cities like San Francisco, New York and in Italy. The earth is happy when people stay inside. Take care and stay well! Have a great week ahead.

My thoughts exactly, Marie, about how this pandemic may be affecting climate change in a positive way?! If so, let's hope the entire world will sit up and take notice. We need to be doing everything in NEW ways to preserve not only our health but Mother Earth. Who knew it would come about like this!

In the meantime, let's makes sure we're staying in virtual contact with those we love. THIS is the new normal! Even the birds are looking more beautiful than ever!

I think that humans are getting a bit of a comeuppance. We are a plague on this planet. Of that there can be little doubt. But I guarantee you that once this is over we will go right back to business as usual. Trump is already talking about reopening the economy, COVID-19 be damned.

How true your last statement! Pandemic for human -breather for earth. And, of course, the fact that earth is self correcting won't change the behavior of humans not one little bit. So sad as we poison where we live.

Goodness knows the Earth needed a breather. Beautiful pictures.

I'm hoping that the decreasing pollution levels will be the one good thing that comes from this virus. Maybe well learn and make some lasting changes.

Spring is on the way, lots of creatures about. And now we have so much more time to sit and watch them go about their daily lives.

nature shake us back when we cross our limits indeed and if there is some good behind it or after it we must learn from our mistakes specially who claim to own the planet and try to run it accordingly the businessmen and politicians
they should take hint from science how to stay cautious within the race of profits
thank you for engaging photos dear Marie
stay well and healthy my friend!
