We discovered Canoe Cove this week. We hadn’t been there before but the beach quickly became one of our favourites on the island.
It was a hot day at low tide when we arrived at the Lloyd Inman Memorial Park. The park has all the facilities for day use and is in a beautiful location. We had a picnic at one of the covered picnic tables and walked to the beach at Canoe Cove just below the picnic/play area.
The beach at low tide is long and wide,
with numerous tidal pools spread over its expanse. The tidal pools have sea life in abundance and we were thrilled to see starfish, a first for us on the island.
They and hermit crabs will be very popular with our grandchildren.
No sand dunes here. The sandstone cliffs which line the cove have a layer of rich red soil above them where Bank Swallows have their nests. We watch the birds flitting around but they stayed away from the nesting holes while people walked nearby.
There is concern for these swallows in Prince Edward Island due to the speed and amount of erosion of the cliffs. Earlier this spring, residents were asked to report sightings of the birds. You can see how much soil is lost when the bank collapses.
People swam and others walked a long way off-shore without getting their knees wet.
We observed the sandstone cliffs as we always do and found a sea arch in the making.
The layers of sandstone show how high the tide rises.
My favourite photo of the day shows the cove, children on the beach and the coniferous trees lining the shore.
We will visit again soon.

A starfish! Very cool. I've never seen one in real life.
What a neat place! I like to wander on the tide pools at low tide around here, too. I'm glad to know you'll be back. That sandstone doesn't look very substantial, so I would worry about those nesting birds, too.
isn't it wonderful, discovering new places and falling in love with them!! it looks to be a beautiful spot, your pictures represent it well!! the sandstone cliffs are amazing, and how nice that you got to have a picnic as well!!
Sorry to see the erosion.
Your tiny island never ceases to amaze me.
I loved your favourite photo as well - it draws you in so that you want to go and see what the children are doing. Exploring new places is so much fun, and that starfish is gorgeous :)
That looks like a wonderful place to visit. Such lovely scenes.
Sounds like a neat place for grandchildren!
What a wonderful outing. I am not at all surprised that you will be back.
I suspect you are right about that sea arch too. I wonder how long it will take.
It looks a lovely place and I just love that starfish. Enjoyed this post. Take care Diane
Another lovely treasure for you to enjoy. Love seeing the starfish, haven't seen one for a few years. Have a wonderful weekend!
How lovely to have such warm tempertures at present to enjoy the beauty of your island. I just love the contrast of blue sky and water, lush green of the fields and the red of the sand and cliffs.
Tidal pools always have something interesting for this old prairie boy to see.
I like the new growth on the pines framing the picture, too.
How exciting to find a new spot Marie, love that last shot too, lovely to see the children playing on the beach. Alarming re the erosion though.
A great "find."
Bank Swallows are in trouble throughout their range so it is good to see them breeding on PEI. The collapse of their nests is a concern, however. If the birds are responding to people by staying away from their nests it would be beneficial to have the immediate area declared off limits,
Hello,
Beautiful collection of beach photos. I love checking out the tidal pools, the starfish are a great find. It is neat to see the Bank Swallow's nesting areas. The sandstone cliffs are beautiful. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!
Beautiful scenic views!
Have a great weekend!
YAY for finding a new favorite place, Marie! To live on an island like yours would be quite an experience for most of us who've grown up in landlocked states or countries. Actually, I grew up in Michigan, surrounded by the Great Lakes, but Michigan is so much bigger, more like a country in Europe, so no comparison. Anyway, I LOVE your red soil/cliffs and can imagine the joy you find living where you do.
magnificent place to visit dear Marie
i found these views absolutely appealing
your captures are powerful and intriguing indeed
starfish is such a work of art ,i can imagine the excitement of kids :)
cliff is captured so beautifully ,it is amazing how nature works through time and diversity
second last image is breathtakingly beautiful ,LOVED IT so brilliantly taken Marie :)))
more blessings!
That looks lovely and peaceful. I'm guessing the water is pretty cold though.
WE get lots of starfish here, in fact a load were washed up recently and GrandDaughter1 spent a long time trying to rescue them all.
What A Beautiful Location With So Much To Offer - Fantastic Photos - Travel On
Cheers
Love to to see starfish...seem lonely starfish.
Fascinating landscapes.
oh, my, I wish I could have been there. I love how you showed the layers of sandstone and the sea arch in the making. How I wish I could be there seeing them for myself.
A new place to visit often from now on.
Yes, that would be my favourite picture as well
wonderful photos - thank you so much for sharing. I know I would be thrilled to see a real starfish!!
Lovely photos, Marie! That is a place I'd love to visit some day!
I loved the starfish. I marked this post so I can show the Grand Girls next time I see them.
