The trees on Prince Edward Island continue to drop the last of their leaves. In exposed areas many trees are bare.
In more protected areas, autumn splendour will continue for another few days. Meanwhile, we continue to enjoy the show.
Maple trees are among my favourites. Part of my love of that tree is its connection to the Canadian flag where the maple leaf takes centre stage. However, the main reason is due probably to the display the trees put on this time of year. The Rotary Friendship Trail has such a display.
There are a number of varieties of maple trees. The maple leaf on the Canadian flag is from a Sugar Maple, with its sharp points and rounded notches. These leaves can vary in autumn colour from red
to yellow
and orange.
There are also Red Maple trees. These leaves have pointed notches and turn red in the autumn.
Maple syrup is harvested from Sugar and Red Maples in the spring. It is our favourite topping for pancakes.
The trails and paths are covered in maple leaves in some areas.
I also admire the determination of the maple tree. The top is gone from this one but the trunk sprouted leaves anyway.
Even in old age, this Red Maple tree trunk along the Bonshaw Trail is quite beautiful.
There is so much to love about these trees.

Wonderful maple, wonderful autumn and wonderful photography!
Those Canadian maples! The colors are amazing to European eyes used to more muted soft colors in fall. My sister in her first Canadian fall said it's like all the trees have lights inside them!
Once again I am living fall vicariously through you. I love the "idea" of fall but rarely experience it.
Around here, when I have visited the sugar bush in autumn, it is all yellow. Mind you, we have a lot of red here too in other areas.
Every single photo is amazing to me. I need to experience that one of these years. Beautiful Marie!
You have a glorious show there; we're having far too much rain and wind this year.
John beat me to it, but yes, glorious! We have quite a variety of reds and yellow. Walla Walla is kind of an oasis, a watered place in the desert of E Washington and many of the trees here were brought here from faraway places. Sumacs, cottonwood and sagebrush are the normal kind of vegetation. There's even a carefully tended palm tree here that's wrapped top to bottom for the winter each year. The only thing left on my bucket list (if I had one) would be to travel to your part of the world sometime and see it for myself.
Simply beautiful.
Maples are an exotic here. A much appreciated exotic.
Thank you so much for sharing the beauty of yours. I do love the aboreal fireworks of autumn.
I love maple trees, too. We have a variety of Big Leaf Maple around here that has enormous leaves! Thank you for the lovely variety of colors you showed. :-)
Beauty everywhere. The leaves are so vibrant with their colours. Enjoy!
Have a wonderful week, Marie.
Thanks for sharing this stunning display of beauty.
What splendid colours, they are so intense. And your photos are, quite simply, beautiful. We never get colour here quite like that as our climate does not get cold enough. It is like nature is giving you compensation for the cold winter about to come upon you. Enjoy! :)
love maple leaves color changes during fall season..... unfortunately, our maple leaves fall down before they reach red color.
Have a wonderful day
Beautiful picture of the Rotary Trail!
They are just so beautiful....I wonder if there is anyone that does not like maples.
We don't have native maple trees here so we miss out on the color. We have planted maples but they do not have the color.
Beautiful maples; beautiful ictures.
there is so much to love about autumn, your images are like paintings, really beautiful. we did not get a lot of color in new jersey this year, fall came and went so quickly!!!
We have maples here in the mountains of NC and they turn beautiful colors in the fall. However, the colors have not been so vivid as yours this autumn. Your photos are brilliant. The trails urge me to take a walk in the woods.
Thanks for sharing with us.
As you say, there is much to love about trees. Unfortunately our relationship with them has been mainly to destroy them; and we continue to do so. I was reading just the other day of a renewed demand to log the remaining old growth forests of the west coast. I thought that battle had been fought and win, but I guess not. We are a sick species.
Your photos are gorgeous; I love trees. Maples are my favorite in the fall, although here they are ornamental and not native. I always wondered why some turn orange and others red!

Wow, your trees are looking beautiful. I love the maples, the red, yellows and oranges are all gorgeous. We are seeing more leaves on the ground, after a few rainy and windy days. Take care! Have a happy day!

I couldn't agree more Marie, trees are all so special, walking under tall trees at any time of the year is an experience to enjoy, but the autumn trees are splendiferous 🍁
I love maple syrup but I have given up buying it now as I think almost 9€ for a small bottle is a total rip off! Keep well Diane
Love this post. We have a huge maple tree at our home in Washington state, where we usually summer. When I was talking to my son this past weekend, I got to see the tree in its blazing golden glory. Hopefully we'll get to travel next year... sigh
I love fall most of all! We had a nice one here in Alberta!
Yes!! There is much to love about these trees!!
