I ripped all my barberry out. Or rather had someone do it. Too hard to take care of and those thorns.... Yours is beautiful and I know the birds love it too. How they manage with those thorns is a mystery.
It's not indigenous and it isn't common here for obvious reasons. It came with the house. I would never have picked it myself but I love the bushes in spite of the barbs.
Oh! Those are just beautifull. I think I have never seen the flower in person.thank you for sharing, Marie. It is raining today. Rainy season has come in my area too.
We used to have one of these in our garden, it was lovely with the flowers and coloured leaves. As our new garden is so much smaller we have not planted one, the thorns can be lethal! Sarah x

Just beautiful! Thank you for taking me along, and I think I can smell those blossoms from here. :-)
Those thorns look NASTY!
They are beautiful. They're used often for hedges, aren't they?

Beautiful plant, terrible thorns! I don't think I have ever seen one of these in bloom before.
Oh. The colour. And no doubt scent. Thank you.
These blossoms are unscented but the bees love them anyway.
They are used in hedges. They would be a deterrent to keep people out, that's for sure.
The birds love the berries in the fall. Right now the bees are enjoying them.
The thorns are bad but the plant is worth it. That's what I think after I have it trimmed anyway.
No scent, just a bloom and such pretty colour.
I've never seen a Barberry bush. Is it indigenous to your area? Lovely photos.
They are terrible!

I didn't realize Japan had a rainy season until you mentioned it on your blog. We've had lots of rain lately but it's not a season thankfully.
Have a great week in spite of the rain, Tomoko.

They sure can be, Sarah. I will have to hire someone to remove it if I ever decide to get rid of it.
