In Summerside, the boardwalk by the bay has squirrels in residence in its forested areas.
The breeding season for these red squirrels is February and March, so there are young squirrels on the trail these days.
While we do not trust them, they appear to be as tame as their parents,
coming around your legs when you stop in their area.
The fur looks new, like the fuzzy hair of a newborn.
Perfection of colouring, claws, whiskers and toes is striking. Their interest in people as a source of food and their comfort around people as they eat, provide us with an opportunity to take pictures. Though they are rodents, like rats and mice, they are tiny examples of the perfection we find in nature.
We must enjoy this time because young'uns grow up so quickly these days!

They are cute, all right. My brother-in-law used to call them "dressed up rats." :-)
These are wonderful I wish ours were as friendly.
It's unique for me to see them so habituated because they are anything but that in more rural areas.
Squirrels are just too darn cute!
It is fun to just sit and watch their antics.
And they have certainly adapted to being artificially fed, which sometimes means they have a greater chance of having salmonella in their system, unfortunately.
They are cute. And, they probably do less damage than chipmunks.
He is right of course but I love them anyway.
Maybe having them wild is best, Adrian.
So many people walk the trail here, so they know people so well.
So true, Debra.
Poor creatures! Good to keep away from them for sure.
I don't know if that is the case. I wonder!
What is it about babies! ANY babies! These squirrels are A D O R A B L E. They remind me a bit of chipmunks at that age. How sweet to make a post of them like this, Marie. :)
Oh my goodness, these are so cute.
....would you mind if I do a sketch from your pics in this post?
How adorable they are. Thanks for sharing them!
It would be wonderful if you did, Ann.
They are gorgeous looking creatures!
Aww, many thanks Marie :)
These babies are so adorable, though untrustworthy.
