At the beach house

The beach house is on an inlet near the mouth of the Hillsborough River, with the capital city, Charlottetown, visible in the distance. A salt marsh and beach separate the house from the brackish water of the estuary.

Our daughter’s family rented the house recently and my husband and I visited. It is a lovely house in a beautiful setting and we spent much of the time with the family on the beach.

The path to the beach goes through a meadow with wildflowers

and Queen Anne had her lace spread about with abandon.

It was low tide

and the Northumberland Strait having already receded, began to rise as we walked with the children and explored the beach. Plenty of shelled animals live below the high tide mark here.

The kids enjoyed playing at the water’s edge and soon discovered they could cover themselves and each other in muddy sand.

Why pay for a mud treatment when you can have this much fun for free?

Nearby a farm extends to the shoreline, reminding us of the connection of land and sea on our island home.

We had a wonderful day with the family and although it was overcast, it didn’t rain. We were lucky to have such a day in a week of miserable weather. If only we could share the rain this summer with western Canada!

What a delightful place to spend some time.
That rental home is lovely. I could really live there..If I did I would have to put a railing on the stairs though..
Love the critter pictures and your Grands having a "Spa" day.

What a lovely place to spend time with family. The walk to the beach looks idyllic. There's nothing like sand and sea for children who find such enjoyment playing there. I wish some of your rain would come west, too.

Oh, WOW, Marie. You have the coolest places to explore...the kinds of places that would thrill me to no end. Astrid's brother lives on Vancouver Island (which I visited in my past life, believe it or not), so I know the beauty of your country...also from the part north of Sault St. Marie (having lived in Michigan)...and also of PEI, Peggy's Cove, etc. while on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. Sharing your family life like this really makes me smile.

A lovely day. There is a lot of rain here that could go west!

What a lovely coastal house! That kind of muddy, sandy, watery coastline is the kind of thing we see in North Norfolk. All that mud should be good for the complexion.

Hello,

Looks like a great getaway, the beach house is lovely.
I am not sure so I would want a mud bath. Happy times with the family!
Take care, have a great weekend!

That house is so lovely. And boy I wouldn't want to have to wash all the clothes after the mud baths. What fun! And your pictured are all wonderful, too.

'A path to the beach through a meadow of wildflowers,' can summer get better than that?

Such a beautiful house and surrounding area. I saw a lot of Queen Anne's lace this morning on my walk. I actually picked a few to mix in with some flowers growing on my property. I put them in a mason jar and it looks so pretty.
