Our lives with our granddog, Georgie, continued over the holiday season as her family visited the United Kingdom and beyond for two weeks. This golden retriever has us just the way she wants us now; she completed our training last summer.
Georgie's visit coincides with my reading of the book, Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis. I am enjoying the book and can understand why it won the Giller prize. The fifteen dogs with human intelligence created a unique glimpse into humanity as well. So in homage to Mr. Alexis and his wonderful book, I am doing fifteen photos of one dog with human commentary, I'm not sure how intelligent it is.

I started reading Fifteen Dogs but somehow it didn't appeal to me, but I think I might give it another try next time to go to the library. So nice to have a dog around. We always had dogs: Shebah the siberian, Wendy the Golden retreiver, Sweep the collie mutt, Blackie the farm dog, many more at different times, but now I am dog-free! But I love taking YoungerSon's doodle Tessa for walks in the forest. Lots of pics of her on my blog, click on Tessa on the topics list.
I'm not really a dog-person, but I do like Golden Retrievers. This one seems to have all the patience and friendliness I've come to associate with them.
I love the book but it is not for everyone. I keep thinking in human terms but I love the insight into the nature of dogs that the author suggests.
Georgie is a typical Golden, great with kids and seniors. The fur around the house is off-putting but she goes home later today. We will clean up after her again.
This is the first time in the past forty years that I have not had a four legged companion. Perhaps I will find an old dog that needs a home soon. Or perhaps I could kidnap Georgie - or should that be dognap!
We would be sad to lose Georgie but after too weeks, we are glad when she goes home. We have the best of both worlds, we have her during her family's vacation time and then she's gone for a bit. A dog of our own would be such a lot of work that we don't want full time. They are wonderful creatures though.
