Comedy by the sea

Every year, we like to take in at least one performance at the Victoria Playhouse at Victoria by the Sea on the south shore of Prince Edward Island.

Last summer and again this year, we saw comedians and thoroughly enjoyed the shows.

We always have lunch in the village and the seafood, fresh and well prepared, has never disappointed. However, the food is a small part of the experience in the little village and there is much to see. This is a fishing community and the boats are tied up at the wharf,

across the harbour from the fish plant.

Some of the restaurants are on the wharf, next to the boats. Fresh seafood indeed!

It was low tide at lunch time and blue herons,

cormorants, and sea gulls

enjoyed the early Sunday afternoon weather which was overcast, though pleasant. A kite surfer shared the waterway with them.

The people of the village take great pride in their homes,

which are well maintained and colourful as are the gardens.

People stroll around the sleepy little village visiting the galleries and shops. We always buy some chocolate made in the local store.

The theatre is the heartbeat of the village in the summer, drawing crowds to the performances, the shops and studios.

The community has small town charm, with its range lighthouse, colourful houses, restaurants, studios, stores and waterfront. It is a peaceful little island community with much to offer.

Lucky you to have access without having to fight your way into the city!

Thank you so much for sharing the very best of small town charm.
We lost a lot when we started living in groups too big to be a community.

It is a quiet, peaceful life here, Jan.

It is a treasure, Debra.

The air is so fresh, Celia.

Our traffic jams are from a tractor on the road, Tabor. Getting around is so easy.

Marie Smith said...

How true, EC. This whole island is small town living.

Just flat out magic.

For an inlander from Ontario like me, the seafood would be the highlight of the trip. We have a membership for a small community theatre north of us and they do put on fabulous shows as well.
I'd love to see houses here painted the wonderful colours that are seen out east. I'd have a purple one for sure. :-)

Emma Springfield said...

It must be so nice to have access to all the seafood you want. Here on the prairies the variety is scarce.

Marie Smith said...

Purple would be fun, Judith.

Marie Smith said...

There is great variety here, Emma. I love halibut but cod is my favourite.

Beyond delightful! I really enjoyed your tour through the eyes of your camera. I love that the Islanders take such pride in their homes, the architecture of them is stunning, all the different colors and styles of the homes. And oh, the homemade chocolate, yes please! I am hungry now for a lobster sandwich. It's been too long! Hard to get fresh lobster here, and nothing like eating it fresh from the boat, nothing like it in the world! So happy to have "strolled" with you through this lovely little town :)

Beautiful spot. If that's not far from the Borden ferry, I think I spent a bit of time in the area eons ago. We ended up in a pub with some fun people we scarcely knew, listening to a live band called Miller's Jug, whom I believe were from Halifax. This would have been in the late 70's.
