The damage

We had a wind and rain storm last week, with sustained winds over 100 kilometers an hour. We lost shingles from the roof and siding off the shed. Our neighbourhood is strewn with bits of shingles as roofers make repairs before the next wintery blast.

Meanwhile, the trees along the boardwalk by the bay show devastation

in the wake of the storm.

The boardwalk has been cleared of debris but the greenbelt has not and the damage is obvious.

I fear there will come a day when the boardwalk will not be lined with trees because all will have been destroyed by high winds.

We have another wind and rain storm today.

Sorry to see the damage to such a beautiful place. We have downed trees all the time because of wind and oversaturated soils, sometimes creating massive damage. High winds are very destructive. Hope this next one isn't as bad for you.:-(

That was some wind, if it broke trees. Uprooting happens around here when drought is followed by much rain and wind. Hope your power was not interrupted.

We too had many branches down with the ice storm we got. It's sad to see that happen to beautiful trees. I hope you are well and keeping warm. This Winter is a bit unfriendly. Take care Marie!

It's so fascinating to me that you have written this today, Marie, because while on the way to the grocery store this morning there was such a wind with rain that I actually wondered if it was a tornado/hurricane! Well, not likely here in the Netherlands, but it really was that bad, but lasted only a minute or two. I even told Astrid about it when she got home from work.

Hopefully your own devastation will get cleaned up quickly and won't return, as predicted. We all need to be spared from such storms.

Ouch. A downed tree is such a sad thing. And sometimes a dangerous thing. Take care.

Sorry for the loss of those trees. Wind straight off the water is fierce. Hope you have no leaks from the building damage. This has been a destructive winter. Soggy ground and wind have taken out many very old, large trees here in Eastern Washington State this winter.

Oh my, that is a lot of damage. We had high winds for a few hours but it's now died down.
Stay warm!

We never lose the power for long in the city but we have a generator, SS.

Our biggest problem so far this winter is the wind, Angela.

Global warming is giving us extremes in weather, Ginnie. I expect it will only get worse.

We don't have trees around our house, EC. I am glad of that!

The weather is more destructive all the time it seems, Celia.

It was mild today at 5 degrees. The winds and rain were terrible though, Judith.

I am so sorry. Perhaps in the summer someone can begin refreshing the windbreak with new trees. Hope you and yours are ok.

The trees really did take a beating. It is a shame. Maybe it is a case of the strongest surviving.

I hope replanting happens next year, Mage.

That's such a shame, you often feature the boardwalk and it just won't look the same any more. Sarah x
