This was the scene in January on the beach at New London.
Not so inviting! This week the beach is windswept but there is much to see as we walk its length.
I love how the fishing boats are so close to shore as they navigate the channel to French River.
They always have seagulls following them, expecting a hand-out as the fishers clean up from the day’s work.
Fishers have a friendly wave to people on the beach, while waves from the wake are impressive on this windy day.
Low tide has exposed some rocks, not a common site on this beach. The remnants of an old wharf is exposed today too, the first time we’ve seen it.
The remains of a lobster trap is partially buried in the sand. A well weathered piece of driftwood has withstood another winter.
Tons of seaweed has been cast ashore on this beach. More than the amount, I am taken with the colours and delicate nature of some pieces.
Low tide exposes the signs of wave action on the sand. A variety of shells, whole or broken have begun the journey to sand themselves.
Along the shoreline, apple trees are in full bloom now as is choke cherry. Lilacs need another week.
We were the only people on this beach today, taking in the best a beach has to offer. What could be better?

The best time to be on the beach Marie! Isn't it amazing how much you see on these walks, the weathered driftwood is incroyable, natural sculpting! The fishing boats do look way too close to the beach!
Interesting to see apple trees near a beach. I wouldn't have thought that possible but I guess the salt water is not absorbed that far up in the land

Wonderful photos. They really capture the feel of an open ocean. Love the way the boats can come so close!! Must be a deep but narrow channel.

there is nothing better than a walk or picnic on the beach. i always enjoy your pictures, as i have said before, our beaches are very different!! the driftwood, and the image of it, are both beautiful!!
Wonderful photos from a wonderful walk. I really like the remnants of an old wharf, it's surprising what turns up each time you visit. Everything gets rearranged by nature.
Each picture has its own special beauty. I especially like the one with the weathered log.
That was a wonderful walk on the beach. It reminds me of the beautiful beaches in the Algarve.

The boats are a few meters from shore Celia.
The channel is narrow and the shoreline drops off just a few meters from the beach PDP.
Farmland borders the beach. Each farm has apple trees somewhere on the property, sometimes along the border with the beach Barbara.
The seasons change the beach tremendously William.
Diane I watched for garbage, especially plastic. There was none.
It is deep and narrow indeed, Tabor, making for a unique experience watching the boat traffic.
It was a fantastic morning on that beach Ec. So much to discover.

Absolutely lovely pictures, and so familiar from our time at our cottage. I can just about feel the salt dried on my skin from the ocean breeze!
Beach sure looks better now than in January, but still quite muddy. The wave picture is fantastic. You can fill the ocean spray even from here. The driftwood picture is very artistic.

The remnants of an old wharf would have been my highlight of the day, Marie! But everything you have shown is why living close to the open sea would be heaven for me! [BTW, I have upgraded to Office 2016 and have lost the ability to see when comments come in from my blog...or should I say that I need to find the setting that permits them, because I forget about checking for them right now. Sorry I'm so late!]
