How the light breaks through

A walk through the Bonshaw Hills this time of year is a colourful treat. High above in the canopy, growing layers of colour have developed, whilst on the ground, new colours are taking over. The face of nature is changing.

Shafts of light pass through the canopy in various locations and highlight different elements of nature.

Spots of light on a path can dance around as the leaves overhead move in the breeze, changing the light’s path.

The most fascinating aspect  however, is how it illumines various areas and objects, as if a spotlight is focussed on the area.

These cause me to pause and look.

This play of light reminds me of the Leonard Cohen’s Anthem. If you aren’t familiar with Cohen’s work, his voice can be off putting. However if you stick with it, you may come to feel as I do, his voice is a perfect conduit for the poetry of his soul.

The song is here.

It speaks to me of optimism which in the face of the climate conditions, I find difficult to hang onto. I’ve been drawn back to this song at this time when I need it most. These words

There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.

give me hope and with it the realization sometimes the light is brought by a sixteen year old Swedish girl.

Beautiful images captured here Marie, I particularly love the last shot, walking in the presence of trees is such a privilege. I enjoyed Leonard Cohen's work immensely, I regret not getting to his concert when he was here in Perth not long before he passed away ✨

Always hope. It can be hard when people (politicians) like to prey on our fears...in both directions. Always hope.

I listened to an NPR interview about a growing group of young people who are deciding not to bring children into the world, at least in part, due to climate change. The interviewer pointed out the one of the most renowned climate scientist that is speaking out these days just had a child. When asked, he answer was that this might be the child with the answer to the problem.

Always hope.

Always hope. It is hard when there are so many people preying on our deepest fears.

There was in NPR interview recently the talked about a growing trend of young people going childless due, at least in part, to the ominous climate predictions. Feeling that it is irresponsible to bring a child in only to have to deal with what is sure to come, their choice is to foster, adopt or parent vicariously through loved ones children.

In answer to that, the interviewer mentioned that one of the worst foremost climate scientists just had a child and his answer to that, perhaps, this will be the child that figures out this problem. HOPE

Thank you for taking us along on your walk. It is still summer in the Carolinas and I am looking forward to autumn colours.

Oh, I am so glad you posted these pictures. I've been trying to paint my salt dough leaves and I couldn't get the color right since we have very few colored leaves down here. I saved your picture so I can open it when I'm painting to have a go-by. Perfect timing.

Beautiful pictures! I love it when the leaves start to change like that. It is scary to see what's happening to the climate.

Beautiful photos, Marie. And Greta - yes! She is a force of nature and just what this world needs. I don't think we've heard the last from her.

I've come back to this entry now that I have a little extra time. Yes, charmed by the way the light hits the leaves. And too, I love the song but wonder what his voice sounded like when he was young.
