Reminder of spring

It snows most days now. The tight grip of winter is exhausting. The layers of clothes required for every outing, the biting wind requiring face coverage, ice under foot and the need for ice grips are always a consideration now if my husband and I attempt a walk. We have resorted to time on the treadmill, a poor and disliked alternative.

Around the house, the snow piles up and along the driveway where banks of snow have begun their annual visit. We are fortunate to have a plow do most of the work but walkways and patio must be cleared too. Meanwhile inside, the fireplace is for more than ambience these days.

But there it sits on the window ledge above the kitchen sink.

A splash of colour and its spaghetti roots swaying in the water when I move it to close the blind for the night. The vase my friend, Lucy, gave me a few years ago holds a hyacinth bulb she gave me for Christmas. Just add water to kiss the bottom of the bulb and roots sprout and grow. Eventually a touch of spring arrives on the window ledge, a scent of hyacinth and a splash of colour to distract from what is happening outside.

Ahhh...

A touch of joy and beauty, nice to see when indoors during the winter.
Have a wonderful weekend, Marie.

What a truly beautiful gift.
I do love hyacinths and am hoping that winter releases its grip on you. And that summer skedaddles here. She has outstayed her welcome.

That flower is so cheery. I have to say, I don't mind snow and even a storm, as long as I can stay indoors.

I can't imagine what it would be like to live in those conditions, where it is so difficult to get outside. It sounds horrendous. Take care of yourselves - and enjoy your beautiful hyacinth :)

A world of white outside that window.

It is a beautiful flower that feels like summer, even in front of that snowy scene. :-)

I would love a fireplace for any reason...but especially on cold days. I LOVE your hyacinth...I hope I can remember to get a bulb and do that some year. That would just be a touch of joy every time I would see it.

I am sure that touch of colour inside really brightens up your mood on a snowy day when you are unable to venture out.

I so wanted to do that last year Marie, but when hyacinth bulbs come in at the nurseries, they go out just as fast. I was too late! I bet the perfume is a lovely reminder that spring will arrive eventually 🌷

Wow, that window looks very very frosty. I love the idea of that bulb. I might even be able to do that - me with my brown thumb.

It does not look like that here! It will be over 100 degrees on Friday! Not good!

I love bulbs but I have never grown them in water. I'm not sure why. I need to watch for that type of vase so I can buy some bulbs when they are on sale. I bet it smells good. It looks like it would.

Your hyacinth is beautiful! That's usually one of the first bulbs to sprout in the spring. I can't wait for that to happen!
