Week six

We are into the sixth week of isolation and doing okay. We see the grandkids via technology and communicate with our daughter regularly. It is like living in another province away from them which we are not accustomed to. Life goes on however and we hope to be back together soon. Who knows when that will be however?

We have had 26 cases of the Covid 19 virus here, all a result of travel. People quarantined themselves quickly enough on their return to Prince Edward Island which has prevented community transmission thus far. Mitigation measures remain in place and tomorrow is the dreaded grocery run again. However we are thankful for all the essential workers who risk everything to keep society going.

Meanwhile any day we can, my husband and I have a walk on the boardwalk. Some days we need our winter gear because of the cold wind but the cold doesn’t keep us away. The break from the house is so important to our mental and physical health.

Every day along the boardwalk is special but one recent day in particular, when the sun was out and there wasn’t any wind, was spectacular. The animals filled the air with their voices. The lonely cry of the gulls, the ever changing vocalizations of the jays, the caw of the raven, scoter whistles from off-shore and the quack of the black ducks in flight filled the air. The sparrows serenaded with their usual songs causing many to stop and look into the trees.

Every now and then, we are called to forget the time we are living through and lose ourselves in nature. Those precious moments make all the difference.

You are lucky you can walk our 1km radius has become very uninteresting, no change of anything along the way. Even the crops do not seem to be growing much. We are in day 34 and we will only know 11 May if it continues. Stay safe Diane

Lets hope that the measures they've taken do their job, though it seems that you can never tell with this bug exactly what it will do next. Nature is a constant source of inspiration and solace for many and this year a lot of people have time to hear the birdsong properly for the first time in their busy lives.

Hello,

The boardwalk sounds like a wonderful place for your walks. I would love hearing the gulls. Hubby and I were just saying it was March 15th was the last time we saw our son and his wife. We all look forward to the time we can get together again. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy healthy new week!

Those precious moments are life and sanity savers aren't they?
Good luck with the grocery run. We also have one today.

I totally get this, Marie. Everything about the change of Winter to Spring has had new meaning this year for me because of COVID-19. I'd like to think we'll all appreciate Life more than ever, once we're back to some semblance of normalcy...though my guess is that may still be a long way off, even after we're able to congregate again. God have mercy on us all.

That's great that you can still go for walks. we've been in now for four weeks and can only still walk 2km from our house. Luckily we are only meteres away from the pier and the sea. It's refreshing to even take a short walk.
Take care and enjoy your day!

I love the thought of walking by the water and all my worries being blown away in the wind. One day our beaches will be open again too.

It really helps to get on on those walks. I know what you mean by dreaded grocery shopping. Some grocery stores are open 7 - 8 am for seniors.

I so wish we had a place to go and walk...that was in nature. I just have always been one to be out in the woods. How life changes...

I love your last paragraph. Losing myself in nature has always been my way to de-stress - sitting on a hill, walking along a beach, listening to birds or the wind, hugging a tree. Nature is my source of sanity. Mxx

I am so fortunate to have places nearby we can go for exercise. I also love the sound of the birds.

It's comforting to read of your fellow islanders self quarantining.

I miss walking in the park... All of them are closed.
Enjoy that boardwalk... I am sure there is always something new to hear... to see... to feel...

It's a real blessing not to have community transmission.

Hi there - would love to see the ducks in the post before in the feather - great looking birds.

Time outside is really important, never has my yard been swept so often - and I even look forward to raking leaves! Strange days indeed!

Hope you are well - Stewart M - Melbourne

It is good to get out for a walk. We do so almost daily although it becomes a struggle for me and my stupid foot.

I love getting outside, even in the snow. Which we had more of today but it didn't stay long. Do you grow any of your own veggies?

My days are filled with quiet. No distractions. I miss seeing people but otherwise, all is well.
