We cycled four times last week, with our latest outing on Saturday. It was a beautiful autumn day, with a breeze cool enough to be comfortable. We rode eastward in the centre of the island along the Confederation Trail, in an area we hadn’t explored previously. We enjoyed the countryside and everything it revealed.
The area is farm country and old barns were a common sight as we rode along.
Fields of crops such as potato almost ready for harvest or field corn,
are common sights on the island.
However, we also passed a huge field of carrots, some harvested,
some still in the earth. We had never seen such a field.
Old barns were a common sight but one newer barn held cows.
Outside that barn, a vine had taken over the usual vegetation, covering it completely.
Asters and goldenrod are growing along the sides of the trail but daisies were prominent along the edge of the trail and fields over a two kilometre stretch. They were a pleasant addition.
Near another old barn, four horses were feeding on hay. There wasn’t enough rain this year for grass to grow much.
One house near the trail is obviously the home of a fisherman. An old boat lies in repose out back
and nets are drying nearby.
People are preparing for the cold weather, getting wood ready while the temperatures continue in the comfortable range.
It is interesting to have a glimpse into the lives of farmers and fishers on the island as we ride the trail which connects all of us.

Many interesting sights to see!
I so would have love to follow the ride you took. Love that old boat...harvest is in swing down here. I wish I could capture the feeling.
Ih, I forgot to say I have never seen more than a small row of carrots...that field looks huge to me.
I love that you are not only getting out and about on your bikes, but that you are sharing such wonderful pictures on your blog! :-)
Looks like another beautiful ride. I love seeing all the fields of crops, that's something I never see here in SW Florida. So glad you are getting outside enjoying nature and the weather. Have a great week :)

Wonderful sights to see when riding by. The village is alive and living its life. Nice observations Marie.
Thank you for the wonderful glimpse of the farmers life.
I love all the fields being harvested and the horses having their lunch.
Thanks for taking us along on your bike rides.

Hello,
A bicycle ride in the country is great, so many wonderful sights to see. I like the first barn photos and the barn full of cattle and the horses. The asters are looking beautiful. I see corn more often here, I have never seen a field of carrots. Great series! Enjoy your day, have a great week!
So many new things to see. You have broaden your horizons!!
What wonderful rides you had - and took us on.
Many thanks.
That looks like a HUGE carrot field, and I love the barns.
you see everything and write beautifully!! i enjoyed the read, and all of the pictures. it was unusual for me to see the carrots harvested but just laying there. i hope they don't go to waste!!
this is a great place to ride!!
Riding through the countryside is fascinating . I am sure you see even more when on a bike, as you are not travelling as fast as aa car. Although, when I am out enjoying nature, I don’t drive very fast either.
Very nice post!
Fishing and farming, weeds and ponies - what a great post this is! Being able to cycle around and see such a wide range of everyday life is absolutely marvelous.
Really enjoyable :) xx
We played a travel game as children, in which white horses yielded the person on that side of the car an extra ten points. So, who got those thirty points?
Cycling means that you're right ot with the countryside and you go slow enough to see everything.
What a great day you had. I traveled with you through the countryside and it brought back memories of my life growing up on a farm. The old barn is similar to old barns here in the Western NC mountains. But we are losing those old barns and I hate to see them go. Great post.
That's a nice journey - I often wonder what will happen to the old farm buildings, and if an alternate use can be found for them, rather than just letting them die.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Seeing those cattle crowded into the barn like that reminds me why we are moving ever closer to vegetarianism.
What an abundance of life! I love county living.
Oh my gosh Marie, so much to see on your bike rides. Loved the sight of fields in different states of growth, ready to harvest and even harvested. Thank heavens for the farmers 💜
What wonderful and peaceful photos! It makes me wish I had a bike and lived in a place with less traffic!!
Those bikes sure broadened the view of your island. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
The horses look quite at ease.
Such a joy to ride through the countryside with you.
