It was a dry summer and many trees are showing the effects of the dry weather. Leaves are withering away on some trees making us wonder if there’ll be much fall colour this year. Regardless, the Rotary Friendship Trail was welcoming as we headed out, drawing us into the forested greens along the trail on a cool but pleasant day.
While some of the deciduous trees look spent, the conifers are vibrant and full. The shortening daylight hasn’t affected them yet, not that we can see.
Many deciduous greens are beautiful although they look muted. As we continued, shocks of autumn maple red dotted the canopy,
lifting the eyes and us with them. Along the ground, young trees stood out among the ferns which were far from spent.
Sometimes an area looked verdant, with hardly a hint of autumn colour. Other times, around a turn, one arrived at sunlit beauty, teasing us about the weeks to come.
Some wildflowers, such as aster and goldenrod are hanging on to their blooms for another few days. They make a beautiful September garden.
Behind some goldenrod, the colour of fireweed which has gone to seed makes an autumn scene.
On the boardwalk by the harbour the next day, the wind was blowing as we looked out over the scene from the gazebo as we always do.
However, the shoreline had the appearance of autumn which had developed over the previous days.
A few days later, we cycled on the Confederation Trail. We can comfortably do 16 kilometres or 10 miles now. We headed west, driving through a small community with a lovely park and farm country where cattle were our companions
as potato fields waited for harvest.
Autumn will continue to sprinkle her magic over the island.
You take in and appreciate so much of what is there.
What a lovely outing on your bikes. The fall colors are a little slow here, with the dry summer our leaves are mostly crumbling and falling off. The aster s and goldenrod look pretty. I love the scene with the cattle. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a happy new week!
I do love autumn but I hate what follows it. Autumn colours are amazing.
Enjoy the week and stay safe, Diane
It's very beautiful. I love your bike rides and wish I were there with you. :-)
I would love to go exploring the area where you go, so beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photo, can't wait to see it in full fall glory!
Oh, Marie, I have so loved your photos...they sure do feel like fall.
And magical it is Marie 💛 Looks like you are having the best of both seasons along your beautiful boardwalk 🍁 you notice so many of the lovely details as you go along the way ✨
LOVE your photo of the red maple leaves among the green ferns! Just stunning!
What a lovely September garden, Marie.
I love the Fall appetizers in between the delicious green.
I think one of my favorite photos is the long dirt road being center stage.
Thanks for taking us along on your walk.
Great photos of the beginning of my favorite season Autumn. Here it's the vine maples reddening that's the first signal I notice. Oh, and that's it's dark by 7pm.
What a wonderful place you live in to have these varied things. Thank you so much for sharing them with us all.
I am super impressed at your growing biking stamina.
And endlessly grateful for the natural wonders you capture and share.
Beautiful photos, Marie. Whether walking or biking, you see the beauty surrounding you. Thanks for sharing.
Our trees have spots of color, too...
Lovely scenes. I think we are farther advanced here. SOme trees have already dropped their leaves, while others are still yellow. It’s a beautiful time of year.
Lovely, lovely scenes captured. I hope 'Teddy' brings the much wanted rain without its damaging winds.
These nature photos are just breath taking! I was wondering about the trees. I noticed that they are not really turning color, just getting old looking. It got cold here so fast.
All pictures are great but my favourite is the last one.
Let's embrace autumn!!
It's good when autumn takes her time and we get to enjoy the colors for a longer period of time
I always feel that watching the trees change colour is one of the great joys of autumn :)
these are magnificent images dear Marie :)

your walks are amazing within the heart of nature ,inhaling the glory of serene views who speak with their silence more nicely
fall flourishes the world with her most pretty colors :)specially in some part of earth such as your's :)
Beautiful landscape. I hope the hurricane which appears to be heading your way doesn't batter it too much.
Beautiful relaxing hike!Like Bill said it most be wonderful on walking on your feet or biking.I see autumm has started at your place.I hope you will be safe when the hurricane strikes
Beautiful nature! Thank you for sharing these great photos!
This post was definitely soothing for my soul. It's too hot here for me to enjoy a walk along the Corniche, and we've been indoors for months now. The only walks we take are laps at the mall. So thanks for taking me along with you to enjoy the nature around you!
these paths are my favorites!! natural, unpaved...full of lush greenery and wildflowers!! the aster and goldenrod are so lush and abundant...i enjoyed seeing the cows!!
i love your closing statement!!!
Enjoying nature and the seasons is so important. I love each one for different reasons. I used to dislike fall, but now it's my favorite by a whisker. We have little maple color yet, but lots of yellow.
Thank you, Marie, for taking me on this lovely journey with the fall colors and even a beach scene. We felt a little fall in the air here today. I love fall now that I don't have to go back to school as I did when I was a kid. Usually in the mountains of NC we are having fall festivals every weekend. Lots of music and craft shows, writing conferences, etc. but this year is different.
Here the maple trees can always be counted on to go first.
Beautiful early autumn photos from your island. So much to see and absorb.
