High temperatures and humidity this past week, without the east coast breeze, has made it intensely hot. This is unusual for us, but our garden is flourishing. Tomatoes are ripening;
beans are forming.
We are eating kale,
Swiss chard, lettuce
and broccoli.
The grocery bills are lower because of our own fresh vegetables.
It is great to pick your own organic vegetables
and eat them right away. Now I know something of how my grandparents felt about growing their own food, though they did it out of necessity.
This is freshness which the grocery stores cannot duplicate and it's from a small, raised vegetable box.
The cucumber plants our granddaughters planted late in June grow inches every day. It will be a few weeks before we are eating cucumber but maybe not with this weather. The girls water their plants every time they visit.
The rhubarb is growing still
and our grape plant has a bumper crop this year.
Ah summer, thy bounty is wondrous.

Our gardens are very similar in what we planted. I love going out and harvesting our own fresh veggies, too. And yes it does make our grocery bills less, for wonderful organic food on our table! Thanks for showing me your planter box. I'll bet you don't have nearly as many slugs as we do, since they would have to climb up and in. :-)
I used to grow vegetables and enjoyed it but did find that even without my time the cost was way over what that of similar products in the shops.
We are eating well from the farmer's market. Maybe next year...
Home grown fruit and vegies trump the taste of anything store bought don't they? Ditto herbs and spices.
Here in winter my vegie garden is neglected, but I have plans for summer. Big plans.
Great garden! It all looks so lush and healthy. My garden is very small this year but it promises nice tomatoes. Your grapes so beautiful!
No slugs. I use coffee grounds around the plants too. Slugs don't like them. We have earwigs which I am trying to control. A challenge for sure!
Your produce must be cheaper than it is here. It is much cheaper to grow your food here, especially if you start the seeds yourself. I buy the plants.
The farmer's market is good, though expensive.
I wonder if you could grow veggies in the winter there? Wow! What a great thing that would be.
I love the produce and the work. I have a lot of my mother's family traits I think.

You do have a bountiful garden. I suspect your "hot to you" summer is more like the summers we had a few decades ago before the ungodly heat from climate change hit us.

You may be right. Our heat is bearable, even without air conditioning.
