The look of spring

The blogging community keeps me apprised of the progress of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The new green of tree and shrub, the restored green of grass and the sprout and blossom of plants and flowers are all well under way. It is on Prince Edward Island as well, but at a slower pace.

To illustrate, I stopped at Irishtown this week to photograph our spring progress. My husband and I love this area and stop several times every year to walk the Millman Road and look out over the rolling hills. In a few weeks the apple blossoms will draw us back here again.

This is the Millman Road this week. The deciduous trees are still asleep.

Nearby the countryside shows that preparation of the fields for this year’s crop is well underway.

The rolling hills have yet to acquire their deciduous green as the newly ploughed fields wait for planting.

Grass is in various stages of green.

The small village church looks over the scene.

We have to wait two more weeks.

Yesterday showed me how green it is here, in comparison to your late spring. But it's really wonderful to see all the preparation in progress. :-)

Yes, we're ahead of you, but other places in southern climates seem to have had their spring a month ago.

Our green has really only just appeared this week, and it is astonishing how fast the green develops once the right weather conditions are here!

The seasons pay no attention to a calendar. Or to what anyone says they 'should' be doing. Glad that your spring is hinting that she is ready to push her colder sister out of the way.

With all the rain we have had here, I cannot believe how green everything is. Sadly though, so much rain means a lot of the fruit looks like it is going to rot before it ripens!
Have a good weekend Diane.
