About this time every fall, a walk through the woods causes us to look up at the coloured beauty of the deciduous trees as they relinquish their leafy greens.
However, if we only look up, we will miss the beauty of the forest floor.
Recently along the trails at Rotary Friendship Park, the undergrowth drew the attention of my husband and me. Summer green has paled or become a combination of yellow-green or yellow.
Taking in the full scene spread before us, the hint of orange-red with some summer green fills the spectrum for autumn colours right at our feet.
My favourite autumn scenes include ferns. Some stands of the feathery plants are almost completely yellow. A hint of green around the perimeter is the only remnant of summer’s colour. Red in the plants in the background enhance the scene.
Young trees add their own beauty to this stand of ferns.
Coniferous trees line the trail in some areas and ferns in various stages of colour fill the spaces between the trees.
Some species of ferns have yet to “autumnate” and their green adds another layer of colour which includes trees in the foreground and background.
While I love the new green on spring, the vegetation of autumn makes my heart sing.
Up, down or around: you are a keen observer.
It was exactly today, that I arrived in Cornwall last year and was thrilled with the autumn colours you have just shared. I had no idea of autumn's full glorious beauty, which would be revealed during my stay.
Wow...a feast for the eyes and the heart...autumn is so beautiful and sometimes there is a certain light that is there mo other times. I could almost cry with the beauty of it akl.
I completely agree Marie, each season has its own delights but the colour spectrum in autumn is something very special to behold ✨ Beautiful series of autumn toned images 🍁
I particularly like your last two shots!
Such wonderful photos of autumn's delicate palette. Picture number 4 would be my favourite but each one has something to offer. I only hope we get some of that colour here, though if the frequent wet days and high winds of recent weeks persist then it's not very likely.
i really love how you described thing s here!! the forest floor becomes gorgeous and the perfect place for a walk!! the ferns are so pretty, they look as if they are swaying in a gentle breeze!!
this is a great post, reminding us to appreciate what is before us and what is to come!!
Those ferns look so nice as they turn colours. Excellent photos, Marie.
stunning colors. Thank you.
They are all so beautiful! I love the ferns too :)
So beautiful. I especially love that last gorgeous shot. :-)
The ferns are really pretty! We're getting a little bit of fall color, but not as much as you have. I have mixed feelings about it. I like the fall colors, but I don't like knowing that winter is on the way.
Looking up or looking down. Looking is the key.
As you have and do.
Beautiful photos - and many thanks.
Hubby and I love, love, LOVE
this time of year. So great.
Loved seeing your photos.
Here's to a wonderful autumn.
Cheers and boogie boogie.
Nature Is Just As Beautiful As Your Words But Not As Beautiful As You
I love that first picture of all the ferns!
Autumn has so much beauty. These are lovely scenes.
Colour up high and colour down low - you must feel like you are swimming in all those gorgeous colours. I love your autumn (we never have that much colour here, just the odd tree although further south has more).
Good point about looking down as well as up. I tend to look up at all the trees - I probably miss alot of beauty on the ground level.. i'll have to start paying attention to it.. thanks
These pictures are so beautiful and relaxing! I love the Autumn season, its my favorite! Have a great day!
As you rightly point out the woodland carpet merits our attention, in the fall to be sure, but even more so in spring when all the early blooms begin to appear.
Very nice hike!It is so good to be out no matter how the weather is
i enjoyed touring around with you today!
Thanx for sharing beauty and happiness :))
So many different greens to enjoy, no matter which direction you are looking.
the views look so beautiful with leaves change their colors....
Marie...you are an artist with your words.
You paint word pictures to accompany your photos in such a wonderful way.
A great post..
Happy Oct. 1st.
The views looking down are beautiful. I love the ferns and beautiful colors. I noticed some like this while driving home today. Take care, have a great day!
You're such an observer. Lovely pictures. I see more underfoot than above when I'm walking, to see where my feet are going -- we have a lot of groundhogs and rabbits and other digging friends whose holes are just right for your foot to slip into!
Per usual your pictures allow us to walk along with you and, no matter what time of the year, you point out the best there is to see. Thabks.
A lovely path to follow!
I'd love to take a walk through that beautiful area! What a great time of year.
i agree that though autumn is display of a sad event of parting it flourishes ground with exuberant beauty and fills soul with penetrating sooth :)
i bet autumn is great way of inspiration for poets and writers
found your words and images poetic either Marie :)
The autumn scenes are breathtaking.
I just love autumn's colors... the beauty is all around us! We have the same ferns that grow here, and it is always so beautiful to see them turn colors in fall! I just love fall, such a rich colorful time of year! Many blessings to you :)
