Lighthouses are a favourite of mine possibly because I have always lived on islands. Listening to my mother describe her time staying at the Lighthouse at Cape Spear, Newfoundland, is part of it too. I have always had a fascination with the structures and Prince Edward Island is a great place to see them. One of my favourite lighthouses is at St. Peter’s Harbour.
This structure nestles behind the sand dunes beside the entrance of the harbour. The lighthouse is in a hollow in the dunes, moved there several years ago by a group of interested citizens, who wanted to save the old building.
The lighthouse had been decommissioned by the government and the citizen group worked on the building to save it. Their hard work has paid off. Now the building is in good shape and is well maintained, in a beautiful setting.

to the beach opens to the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
The beach is a beauty, unspoiled, wind swept, and to the west appears to go on forever.
To the east, the pylons for an old wharf are ravaged by sea and time, adding to the rugged beauty of the area.
St. Peter’s Harbour opens to the south of the old wharf.
As we walk the beach, the old light peaks above the dunes, as it would have done years ago.
It is a link to the past, a reminder of the reassurance it provided fishers and their families all that time ago.

It is a beauty...I guess I am so interested in them because I have never seen one ip close and personal.
I live in a state whose entire eastern boundary is the shore, punctuated by lighthouses. They're intriguing to see and especially the ones you can get in to climb up. Yours are very good. Are they open to visitors?

There are several we’ve visited which are open to visitors in the summer. Most, like this one, are not.

I think my favorite photo is the old wharf ruins. That is so picturesque. Its a wall hanger for sure.

Lighthouses have a beauty, charm (and romance) all of their own. I am so glad that this one was retained and restored.
How nice it was that people wanted to save and restore this beauty of a lighthouse. Now others can see and enjoy it too.

Lighthouses are a favourite of mine too. Dates from my visits to Flowerpot Is. as a teenager when the old lighthouse was still operating. It was deliberately burned and replaced by a modern one! In comparison the local citizens in Lion's Head got together and built a replica lighthouse after their's was destroyed by high water levels and a late fall storm last year, 50+ years later.
Living many years along the shore of Lake Erie, I, too, have lighthouse appreciation, from Fairport Harbor to Sandusky.
Beautiful scenes. I can just imagine how many photos I would capture at a place like that.
Lighthouses were a different technology. Many good stories have been built around light houses.

A great little lighthouse in a wonderfully wild setting. Glad that people saw fit to maintain it.
It's great that concerned citizens made sure that it has been preserved for future generations to see, and get an appreciation of the hazards that were part of a maritime life.

Wow! What fantastic photographs. I felt I was there feeling the sand under my feet, the water swirling around my ankles. I love lighthouses, too, but I never lived on an island. How wonderful it must be to live where you live.
I hope one day I get to travel again and I will head up your way when I do.
Such beautiful photos and lighthouses are special. There is only one that I know of at the Jersey shore in our area.
I love that there were people who saved the lighthouse ... not only did it bring back history but it provides a lovely picture for today.
I love that it has been rescued and in such a perfect spot. At first I thought it was the Covehead Lighthouse.

I have never seen a light house up close. Would love to do that one day and maybe go inside. Course I would have my camera in hand and maybe, paint it later. Thanks for sharing this. They are so cool.
