Beach chairs…check.
Water…check.
We headed to Belmont Park on the western shore of Malpeque Bay on Prince Edward Island. It was a gorgeous, blistering hot-under-the-direct-sun day with an island breeze which made the heat bearable. However, the breeze was too much for umbrellas, our preferred way out of the direct sun.
It is a small park and is rarely crowded, an excellent place for a picnic, just above the beach on the lawn or among the trees. We’ve picnicked in both locations sometimes with our daughter and grandchildren. This time, we were alone.
We walked along the beach, found some interesting shorebirds and took photos to share another time. Today is about the view, straight ahead.
It was easy to be distracted by the activity behind us on the green or the other beach enthusiasts nearby. We settled in and chatted as we usually do, a level of comfort between us which is unique in our lives. I focused on the scene ahead, the gull, the red sand and the shades of blue.
The tide was rising and an hour made a huge difference on the flat beach. Over that time, the scene before us changed. The gull floated and the grass swayed with the gentle action of the waves.
It is quite a change though all the elements are there still. It reminds me of aging as it is for us now anyway. Who knows what storms are on the horizon?
Most importantly, enjoy here and now!

That’s a good idea: different times and zooms from one spot.
BTW, my grands are in PEI for a few days — in the east, at a cottage near Newport.
Aren't you lucky to find such a lovely spot to enjoy all to yourselves... I love the red sand. In the summer there are people everywhere on the Island. I envy you a husband that loves your excursions. Roger has no interest in the Island and couldn't sit still that long anyway.Have a good week.💖
Nice.....would love a walk around the beach. I did not even get on the beach this last time I was in Calif.....way to busy. Depending on what time of the year and where, the sand on the beaches in Calif can be hard to walk on

a beautiful spot for a walk and a picnic. it has been too hot for a picnic but soon the weather will be perfect!!
our beaches have been packed, too many tourists. so we spend time in our pool and look forward to beach walks in the fall!!

Lovely analogy to aging. Yes, we are all getting older and some things are just not the same anymore. It is best to accept what is and move forwards even if only slowly. I love your pictures.

I felt such peace on your beach. I miss going to the beach. Before moving to the mountains of NC, I was only a half day's drive from a lovely Florida beach. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever see another beach. Travel is hard for me now and without my husband, would I really enjoy it as I once did? So glad you and your guy enjoy the beach, going picnicking together and so glad you share your lovely island with all of us.

" .....a level of comfort between us which is unique in our lives". This really piqued my attention, Marie, and I am not quite sure what it means. Unique to aging? Unique only to you and Rick? Inaccessible to others? Miriam and I chat easily all the time, but I confess never to have thought it unique. We have not visited this park and we will be sure to do so when we visit the island again next year. Just one more thing about the word "unique". It is one of my pet peeves to hear people talk of something as being "quite unique" or "somewhat unique", or other qualifiers. Unique is exactly what it says. One and only. Unique! Like you.
Lovely and very tranquil. I do hope the storms we have ahead will leave us just fine and with a nice rainbow or two. :-)
They say to take time to smell the roses, but it is equally relaxing to sit and watch the tide come in!

I love to sit at the beach and just watch the tide as it makes its way in. It always seems to happen so effortlessly but progress is inexorable - it is almost sneaky!

This is lovely to find a peaceful corner in the busy park. With age as couple though our topic change but light chat brings freshness to our mood surly :) specially when veiw before is as beautiful and poetic
