We were the only car in the parking lot at Cavendish Grove with only one car parked at the Beach. Early morning on a sunny day in the national park on Prince Edward Island, the only sound came from the birds and the sea. The sky and sea were a perfect backdrop.
While cycling the parkway, it is easy for my husband and I to be distracted by the coastline. The breaking waves and the red coast anchor the blues. We watch for several minutes each time we stop.
Sometimes, looking directly out to sea, evergreens are the anchor.
Other times, blues are muted by the sun.
On setting day as we cycled along, we could hear the fishing boats off shore, the sound carried on the wind. A few were close enough for photos as they set the traps that first day of the lobster season. Photos of working fishers are among my favourites.
Fishers of the feathered kind float on MacNeills Pond. That hook at the end of the beak is handy for fishing.
The old fence behind the dunes at Cavendish Beach and the weathered trees are highlighted by the sky.
A new walkway to the beach blends with the dunes and vegetation.
Every time we are at the park, new favourites greet us.

The old fence photo wut the weathered trees is intriguing. I would love to photograph it in better sky and/or golden light.

The views of the beach, water and coastline are just beautiful. I would be easily distracted, probably falling off my bike. The bird does have a strong looking hooked bill. The new boardwalk looks wonderful! What a great place for your bike riding. Have a great day and a happy new week!

Hi Marie, I congratulate you on choosing a title for this post. These photos could all be favourites! Let me comment on #1 and #3. Gorgeous! If I had been on a bike riding along with you and your husband I would have stopped along there and spent the rest of the day gazing out on the beautiful scene. Your pictures are actually as good as, if not better than, many I see in tourism magazines. Another of my personal favourites in this post … #6 … the old fence behind the dunes at Cavendish Beach. I apologize for not responding about the piping plovers. That’s why I am responding immediately to your question, so I do not forget again.
Piping Plovers are breeding here. They are protected and sections of beach around the island are roped off and dogs are not permitted on certain beaches.
Savage Harbour on the northeast coast is one area we know of, as are parts of the national park. We have never seen the birds but keep looking. Savage Harbour has lots of beach birds in August and is an area we like to visit.
There isn't anything quite like looking out over the ocean Marie, in all types of weather. I relate so well to your beautiful images today.

It's interesting. I see that AC is just as intrigued as I was with the photo of the rustic home-made fence with the windblown tree close by.
Well, my favorite photo was the new walkway and picnic area! And the Loon. I have seen lots of loons but rarely am able to get close enough for a decent photo. We have very few public footpaths on the Island. I am waiting for the osprey to return. They have a nest in each of the two towers of the bridge as well as one of the ledges connected to an island off our shore. Any day now.❤️
