The beach at Brander’s Pond

The beach at Brander’s Pond is one of our favourites and every year we visit at least once. This year few of the cottagers have returned to the area and we were the only people on the beach. Non resident cottagers haven’t been granted entry to the island yet due to the Corona virus.

The pond empties into the Gulf of St Lawrence and the water is crystal clear.

Nearby ducks played in the pond though I couldn’t get a good photo.

The sea stack along the shoreline is one of the attractions of this area.

Our visit in August of last year resulted in one of my favourite photos of the year.

The white atop the sea stack is guano of the Double-crested Cormorants who enjoy sunning themselves there. They haven’t returned to the stack yet this year though there were plenty flying along the coastline while we had lunch and watched the fishing boats.

                                                                                2020

The sea stack has eroded over the last three years though not as much as I expected. The shoreline has taken a bigger hit you can see.

                                                                             2017

The beach is pristine, with the exception of some fishing gear which washes ashore every year. The red sand and sandstone cliffs are in sharp contrast to the sea. Looking closely at the cliffs,

one can see the layers of sand deposited and hardened over time which are easily eroded.

The view up the beach draws us onward.

The reality of the pandemic is light years away for a few hours.

Great place to be able to escape to. Like you I love to see the different strata in the sandstone.

You are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. And I am glad I have gotten to know it through your blog. Thank you so much for continuing to show PEI. :-)

The sea stack is tres photogenic Marie, looks amazing just out from the shore line. It does look like there have been strong tides through your winter months. I absolutely agree that the beach and along the coast is one of the places where it is easy to imagine the world is 'normal' ✨

Oh, how I could use some time at a place like this. With no one around except family. Love that one view that you said was a favorite from last year.

This is a virtual walk that was like breathing clean sea air. Your essays are meditations each time I come in.

It may be my mood today. but the pics bring a feeling of stark beauty...a kind of loneliness. They are lovely.

Lovely to get away from the harsh realities of pandemic life for a while! And to be by the sea is a huge bonus. I miss the sea so much.... perhaps I whined about that to you before!!!! And no trip to NL planned for this year....

Beauty all around to see and enjoy. The photo before the last one looks like a face profile on the right side of the photo. You can see eyebrows, nose and lips. :)

So lovely and I like your ending sentence about the pandemic being light years away for a few hours.
That's the way I feel when I'm working out in our back yard.
We (Dave and I) need to take a ride somewhere...any where...I'm getting antsy to just be "normal".

At some angles of the photos the cliff looks like a face looking out over the stack. Hope all is well Diane

I am not in the slightest bit surprised that pristine and beautiful beach is one of your favourites.
The stack (with icing?) of its own just adds to the beauty.
Many, many thanks.
It has about the right number of people on it too.

Spectacular scenes. In reality , I guess you hear the waves, which would add to the beauty.

Wow. Your photos make me feel like I'm vacationing. That sea stack is fabulous! I've never seen one other than on the TV. You sure live in a beautiful place--and it's wonderful that you don't take that beautiy for granted.

Thanks for sharing. Have a great week!

Walking along a lonely beach with sand under your feet, waves beside you, fresh tangy air to breathe - your walk sounds like heaven :)

Wonderful photos of the cliffs and sea stack. It is interesting to compare the older photo with the new, and rather sad to see the erosion, even though that is very much a part of life by the ocean. Your final comment is so true; anything that can take us back to normal, even for a short time, is a welcome respite from the stress hanging over us.
