A scad of snow

We had snow overnight and the air was cold but without any wind. It was a fall morning when you could see your breath but conditions were perfect for a walk along the Rotary Friendship Park.

In Newfoundland vernacular, this amount of snow qualifies as a scad. It was just enough snow to highlight the landscape along the trail.

There are a few trees which have held their leaves in spite of the strong winds we have had for the last two months.

The branches overhead draw the eye skyward.

A picnic table nearby won’t be hosting too many picnics this morning.

The trail between the fields kept us going on and on into the distance.

By the end of our walk, the snow was melting. It was an invigorating walk with just enough snow for a taste of winter.

Interesting term, since 'scads' (plural) has usually mean 'a lot' to me.

Hello,

Pretty series of images. I like a "dusting" of snow. Just in the grass and trees, none in the streets. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend!

A "scad" of snow -- great expression!

Some years we don't even get that much snow. When we do the tabloid newspapers call it an "arctic blizzard"!

Just beautiful! I have never heard that Newfoundland term for a bit of snow. I like it. :-)

What an interesting word. We probably won't get a scad of snow this year. :) That trail looks inviting and a nice place to walk.
Have a wonderful weekend!

It really is so pretty!
Happy Weekend to you.
Heatwave coming here, I'm told.
Not really but it's gonna feel like it.

We have similar amounts of snow around here at present.

That little bit of snow, what we would call a 'skiff' makes for beautiful scenes.

We call this a skim of snow...but I think a scad almost sounds better! This is a lovely place to walk.

Great conditions for a walk. At this time of the year I make several different kinds of soup (I made two yesterday - a country vegetable and a lemon chicken orzo) so that when we have spent the morning outside we can have steaming hot soup when we come home for lunch.

Scad....like the word and must remember it. Not a fan of snow, but your pictures are very nice. I can see the sun shiny through in most of them so they look like a cold day here...which is generally just gray and dull. Lots of folks like to walk when it's cooler, I'm one that likes to walk during the dog days of summer. My arthritis appreciates the heat far more than the cold.
